Bad sleeping pattern in uni?

Why do so many people in university have such bad sleeping patterns? You would think in uni you've got more freedom you have more time on your hands. You've got time to sleep so I don't see why your sleeping pattern should be bad. I'm going to uni this year so i'm just wondering why this is such a common issue.
I don't know to be honest. My sleeping habit literally changed for worse when I came to uni and I rarely go out to events and stuff. Maybe it's the fact that there is more freedom. Like at home I would sleep earlier because my parents would also sleep at a certain time and that was practically lights off for me. But now there's no one to tell me what time to sleep, I just stay up.

I plan to go to the doctors to sort it out anyways lol
My dude, I go to sleep at 4am and wake up at 4pm

Nobody's sleeping pattern is worse than mine
No idea, I couldn't do it again.
Well at uni most social events are late at night so you're going out late and then having lie ins to catch up on sleep. Then when it gets to midnight you feel like you haven't done anything with your day so you stay up a few more hours. Then you have another lie in and the cycle continues.
For most people their lecture attendance isn't monitored so people just get a bit lazy and don't wake up as early as they should. People get into bad routines.
Also of course some people don't have early morning lectures so it allows them to go to bed later.
Basically yes you have free time but most people don't use that time to sleep, they use it for socialising or staying up and watching tv. When you have so much freedom you can just do what you want and no one judges you for it at uni like your parents do.
My sleeping pattern is at its worst when I have deadlines and exams. I'm more productive at night when everyone's asleep so I tend to stay up til 6/7. Then I end up skipping lectures and sleeping in til 11. Cycle continues and it's really hard to get out of even when you no longer have deadlines.
Depends though, if you've always had a good sleeping pattern then you'll probably be able to maintain it. But if you're someone who tends to struggle, your pattern will most likely get worse at uni.

I mean, I've always been this type of guy who passes out at 10 AM and wakes up at 7 PM. Nothing wrong with it, you just have to get used to it and create a mental timetable that suits this sleeping schedule.
Stay up late drinking, studying, or completing assignments last minute. Alternatively, waking up really early to complete last minute assignments or studying. Lie ins to counter this and taking lots of naps to make up for all it = not sleepy come normal bedtime.

I say this after just waking up from a nap after getting up at 5am to get in some last minute studying for a 9am test (and I stayed up late last night studying too). 😅
Uni hasn't affected my sleeping patterns too badly. I normally go to bed at 11 and get up at 8.30. Having grown up in the countryside where it is pitch black and completely quiet at night makes it rather difficult for me to get to sleep though. My flat is in the centre of town with street lights and is right near the night club. Also, some of my flat mates have really bad sleeping patterns and hang out in the kitchen until the early hours of the morning which makes it difficult to sleep.
