Western democracies and their fight against free speech and freedom of expression

The more far-right/far-left the ideas, the more the western 'democratic' leaders fight against them.

While some regimes limit the opposition against them, some democracies limit the views that oppose theirs.

The line between a tyranny and a democracy is blurry.
In this case I think it ultimately comes down to what the intention behind it is. From a historical perspective I am interested in the speech and how the contents helped to shape its impact. I'd like to think that the educated listeners of radio 4 will not be indoctrinated by the broad casting of this speech, and would suggest that the reaction of Lord Adonis is uncalled for and over the top. He is welcome to express concern, but what he is doing feels unnecessary.
