I should probably know this but just need a brief explanation...

How do I know if a substance is giant covalent or a simple molecule when I only know the formula e.g SiO2 ?

Thanks X

Well it depends on how many atoms there are. if there's a few - then it's simple. If there's a lot - then its giant.

I'm pretty sure the only giant covalent molecules you'll be tested on for GCSE are graphite, silicon or sand, diamond - if they test you on another one they'll tell you. The rest I would say are simple. If it's a gas, then definitely simple.
