Dentist

I currently don't have a dentist, the one i was with as a kid was private and i couldn't afford to go there once i turned 19. With the mega shortage of NHS dentists i couldn't find one to join. I'm having lots of problems with my wisdom teeth, causing me a lot of pain but obviously nowhere to go. I'm now at uni and wondering do i try to join a dentist in Southampton where i go to uni, or try get into one back home and go see them when i'm back for Easter and if i have any oblems whilst at uni make emergency appointments or the other way round?

Also, how do i find out how to 'join' a dentist?

If you know can you let me!

i had the same problem - just without the uni bit - you just go down to the place or ring up and ask if they are taking on anymore NHS patients. i think i went through about 8 dentists before one accepted me. i don't think it's good to go emergancy because my dad did this and it cost him just under £4,000 just to have 1 tooth removed, a filling and two teeth repaired.
Keep on phoning up NHS dentists until one will take you - work out how far afield you are willing to travel to get to one and you'll have a good idea which ones to phone up.
I switched dentist a few years ago ( my old one made me nervous and smelt like chicken soup). It was pretty straightforward. I asked my friends who they reccomended and then just called up the practice and asked if they had any NHS vacancies. Luckily they did!

I'm pretty pleased I moved - my dentist now is really good looking and a right charmer

he's very yummy, and quite young - he's the first young dentist i've ever had

sadly i found out on my last visit that his wife is his dental assisstant, and she is pretty hot (in a non lesbian way)
so she is on my 'people that must die' list along with Johnny Depp's wife.

Haha you win for that! I'm not sure of mine is single or not, but hes made having dental treatment very enjoyable so I don't mind!

yeah, but only if you go private - it isn't that easy by NHS.

Lol, chicken soup? My second orthodontist had forests of ginger hair growing on his arms...it alway unnerved me when these unnaturally hairy limbs were heading towards my face! However as my first orthodontist had taken me off his books and transferred me to another one for being 5 minutes late for an appointment due to heavy traffic (despite the fact I was regularly kept waiting for over an hour for him to see me) I wasn't really in a position to kick up a fuss!

So should i be doing all this in Southampton where i go to uni or back home?
google NHS dentists in your area, there's a fairly decent website I used to find myself a dentist. Does your university affiliate with any local dentists - my uni has it's own doctors and dental surgery, and although the dental surgery is private they'll treat students as NHS patients if they can prove they're at the uni.

A lot of dentists will take on emergency patients but the cost varies.

There's also the option of a dental hospital, or a hospital with a dental department.
