Help with binomial approximation

Okay so they've asked using the binomial expansion found in part a

approximate 7100^1/3

the original equation is (8-9x)^1/3

how do i get the value of x i need to sub into the expansion

i thought since theyre the same power i could just make them equal to find the value of x but this yields the wrong answer

Can you think of factor you can take out that will make x small?

The binomial approximation is only valid for 98x<1|\frac{9}{8}x| < 1 hence for x<89|x| < \frac{8}{9}. This is why your approach yields the wrong answer - your xx value is out of this range!

Instead, try rewriting 71003=100037.13=107.13\sqrt[3]{7100} =\sqrt[3]{1000}\sqrt[3]{7.1} =10\sqrt[3]{7.1}.

I’m not sure what you mean. Would you mind explaining in a bit more detail And why did it work on all the other past papers I did?
