The end result is to create something that will animate algothims, like sorting, searching etc.

It doesn't matter how it's made as long as its made well. They are the languages that's been taught to us so far, though not specifically how to animate things.

So which is easier, a pure Java program? Or a Web based page?

Generally a webpage (using a canvas element) would be the easiest way to make an animation if you are familiar with the technology. It has a very low bar of entry to make (requiring only a text editor) and can be deployed easily without requiring compiling. Here’s some tutorials to help you start using canvas animation:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...sic_animations
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/...s_API/Tutorial

At the end of the day though: go with which one you’re more familiar with. They will both allow you to create simple animations, the only difference is how long it will take to write the code which is purely based on your confidence with that language.

I hope this helped 🙂

There is a visualisation program called Processing which is used to create ‘art’ but is used for programs, visualisations and games as well. I know for a fact it is used by a Professor to teach optimisation algorithms which find the best fit for pipes within a large pipe.
