Is HSPS possible with these subjects?

Realistically, would I even be considered with A-levels: Econ, Politics and Philosophy?

Or to stand a chance would I need something like English lit as well in lieu of one of the other subjects?

Thx

Hi, I know we weren't v friendly on my Israeli thread, but I applied for HSPS at Cambridge last October. I think it would be possible with your subjects, as they are definitely geared towards the degree. I also highly recommend UCL's ESPS degree (the same kind of degree, but with a year abroad and you can become fluent in a language if you choose) which I received an offer for. It's just as competitive tbh (you need to take the TSA) and I read on the UCL acceptance stats that 65 got in out of 750. I prefer ESPS though because you can specialise in a subject of your choice, so you could specialise in economics for example (you can do the full specialisation, which gives you the same level in economics as someone doing economics on its own, just with the year abroad and the possibility to learn another language). Anyway, ESPS is really diverse, so I'd take a look at UCL's website. LSE also offers something similar now for 2019, but AAB grade requirements instead of A*AA at UCL, and it's not as good in my opinion. Anyway, hope this helps.

Hi thanks, and congrats on your offer. Would you mind sharing your subjects? I've seen the ESPS, it has the same prospects as the HSPS and LSE's Gov degree, do you really think would my subjects I'd be suitable/considered for these degrees (HSPS and ESPS)?

Thanks, I take geography, history, maths and French. I think your subjects would be suitable tbh, as they are social science subjects

Hi, what is the LSE course you're talking about? Is it language, culture and society?

Yeah it is . I'd have definitely applied to that on UCAS as a fallback if it was offered last year, but I think it needs a few years to be as well established as ESPS or HSPS.

Wow thanks, I kept getting told I have no chance without one of Maths, Sciences, English Lit, history or geography!

By whom?

Simply check Cambridge's stated requirements, and maybe a few Colleges too, but the rule is they don't have hidden/secret rules. Why would they waste applicants time encouraging applications with the "wrong" subjects, and their own time having to assess them? If a subject is required, or even preferred, they clearly say so.

They *do* say they like to see an essay subject - you have three. And, for example, Christ's says "It may be helpful if your subjects relate to the area of the course in which you are hoping to specialise, eg History or Sociology for Social Anthropology etc."

They don't say they require Maths or whatever. BUT if you think you will get as good grades in Maths or another science then it could be worth considering.

Generally it's simply best to pick the 3 A-level subjects you most enjoy and will do well at.
