Thinking about it, especially during easter as exams are close then. During Winter not so sure, I want to go travel during that time, so maybe come back home or go somewhere with friends.
I stayed here over the Christmas break and just went home for a couple of days. I'm splitting my time between 3 homes at Easter and will probably only be here for a week!! It was dead here over xmas hols (except for international students) but I think it will be busier at Easter

I stay here. Remember, you can only do that in accommodation that has a 40 week contract!

Not necessarily; ask your university and see what you can do. I lived here over the Easter of my first year, and then fully since summer 2006. I don't really have a "home" anymore!

For me, it's necessary because of the amount of work. I tried doing academic work at home, but I was spending £10 a day and a couple of hours commuting to a neary university to get any books; staying in uni was cheaper from that PoV. I've had long essays and my dissertations over the previous holidays, too, so there's been a LOT of work to do; this easter, there's my 15,000 word dissertation and a 6,000 word long essay to do, along with the research for the latter AND revision for Finals. Oh, and some time off too! I couldn't not stay here...

Incidentally, if you do do this, it might be worth getting to know "real" people who aren't at the uni; I've made enough friends as to be happy to live here after graduation.

I went home for a week at christmas and will be here for Easter. I imagine that'll be quite common with exams straight after Easter. I know I won't do any work at home.

Apologies if this is a stupid question, but can you borrow or use the books from other universities' libraries then?

At Aidan's you can't stay over Christmas. You can get an extended let which will allow you to stay for most of the Christmas holidays, except for about a week over Christmas. You get to leave your stuff there though. I've started coming back up a few days early in order to try and get some work done. You can stay over Easter though.

Generally not; I just signed a book to say I wouldn't damage the books and looked at them in the library.
I tend to only go home for about a week - which is obviously a bit different as I'm still paying for train tickets, but if you wanted to stay for the whole vacation it'd probably be possible. It gets a bit lonely, but not everyone is gonna go home at the same time so there's always someone around!

That's a shame. Have emailed them about this. Just wonder how much it might be.
I had to stay over the holidays last year, since I was working for the university. It was like a ghost town over christmas, it was uncanny.
When I'm at uni in the coming Sept, I'm gunna have to as at that point I will have nowhere else to go :s-smilie:

Kinda limits my choice of accomodation.

A lot of people do, but personally I get the hell out of here.

It's usually possible if you ask the right people. As long as you're a student elsewhere, it's a sort of unofficial shared agreement that you can use other Unis' books, and vice versa. You're normally only able to look at them within the University library though, rather than take them out.

Well if you come to Sussex, I think in all the accomodation you can stay over Christmas and Easter, because you're paying rent for that time anyway.

OK, that's good to know, thanks

It's an extra £500 or so.
And you'll be self catered for that time too. Without an oven :s-smilie:

I'll have to weigh up my options nearer to the time, especially as I am waiting on two more universities. Here's a reply to an email I sent though:

There is no necessity to apply for an extended let at the moment, all the paperwork regarding accommodation will be sent to you during August and you will apply then. Accommodation is guaranteed in College so there is no need to worry at all.

Regarding the extended let. If you opt for the 33 week (term-time only plus Freshers induction programme and Christmas vacation, excluding the closure period. The College is completely closed for a period of roughly 12days (depends how Christmas Day falls), and you would not be allowed to use your room during that period. The 38 week option is the same (term-time only plus Freshers induction programme, Christmas and Easter Vacations, excluding the closure period). College is usually completed closed from 12 noon on the day before Good Friday until 9.00 day after Easter Monday, so you would not be allowed to occupy your room during that time. You would of course be able to leave everything in your room and return after the closure period.

Was hoping it wouldn't be as much as 500 quid though.

I'm only going to take one week off at home for Easter, I get really rusty after long breaks like Christmas + exam period and the summer holidays. I've decided that I'm not going to do any uni work during those seven days, I'd like to keep my brain in check without burning out, I think a week's rest is sufficient.
