How detailed do I need to know the fetch-decode-execute cycle for GCSE with the OCR exam board? Do I need to know specifically what all of the registers do at each stage in the cycle or do I just need to know more generally what happens?

The specification for the OCR GCSE can be downloaded here:

http://www.ocr.org.uk/Images/225975-...ience-j276.pdf

You need to know a basic set of registers:

Memory Address
Memory Data
Program Counter
Accumulator

Together with common CPU components and their algorithms:

Arithmetic Logic unit
Control Unit
Cache

Definitely understand how the fetch-decode-execute cycle is iterated several times to complete a high level command abstraction using the registers and components listed above.
