No i am in my first year doing A-Level biology but have a mock exam at the end of the year. But i have been failing for most of the year and i like you have no idea where i am going wrong because i make so much notes and spend so much time looking over information but i just cant get any good grades.
I'd recommend CGP books- they have exactly the right detail and so close to the specification so super useful. The Oxford AQA books are useful if you really don't understand a topic (however they are a bit pricey just to use now and again!)

Try making flashcards/mindmaps to actually memorise the information, but first you need to understand the content. Try to do this by asking teachers, asking your friends or watching online videos. My favourite resource for biology has been the Tailored Tutors website, it's a paid thing but super useful- message me if you'd like the link to it

Hi , I’ve just finished topic one on biological molecules and topic two on cells , I wrote tests on them and I failed completely, I study so hard , I do past questions I understand content , but I still get low grades , pls I need advice or tips on what I’m doing wrong .
@kukuking

Good morning young man! Apologies for the late reply and sorry to hear your dilemma!
DW, it should not be too digfficult to work out where you are going wrong: atm it looks like your exam technique needs refining; maybe you are not reading the Q twice carefully to understand what is being asked and therefore to work out what is in the mark scheme i.e. you need to use tactics to read the examiner's mind. These are just my rough ideas r n, derived from your brief post.

Do you feel comfortable to share here a couple of Qs you have done and your answers? I am happy to give you detailed feedback and tips on how to improve, potentially ultimately to near perfection. It might help other students on TSR, too!
I know this was 6 years ago but I am going to tell you the cheat code that nobody tells you. btw I got all 8s in gcse and got A in biology AS mock. used to get 4s in biology in yr 10. im not writing this fat para for nothing lol.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME DOINGTHESE THINGS:
writing flashcards
rewriting notes
making mind maps
re reading notes over and over
use CGP (SCAM)
ive been told them techniques work? have I been lied to? YES, you have. those techniques are examples of passive learning...like diffusion across the bilayer... we know diffusion is passive and active transport is active, it requires energy from ATP.... womp womp whatevs. which is quicker? ACTIVE TRANSPORT, (💯 you should know this! ).
plants know diffusion vs active transport is the equivalent of Drake vs Kendrick.... 'I make music that electrify em, you make music that pacify em' - Kendrick lamar, Euphoria, 2024 (K won). plants dont use diffusion and use active T instead bc of its significantly faster competitive rate and efficiency. plants dont play😤 more passion more energy more energyyy, bruh what the hilllllll
you want to actively engage your brain rot brain!!! this is more likely to stay in your long term memory, passive information enters your short term memory and very slowly after a lot more of passive revision and some more and more......and a bit...more.....will be in...wait...one sec.....long term memory= bruh. fox news
these are the things YOU NEED TO DO:

1.

watch different youtube vids on the same subtopic to understand

2.

PRACTICE QUESTIONS! do every past exam Qs on PMT for every subtopic= GUARANTEED A, if u dont know the answer just check mark scheme and then write correct answer down

3.

do all the questions in ur gcse textbook

4.

blurting

and that is it and it will benefit you more than any futile flashcard ever will. how long do mind maps take? 1 hour? flashcards...... prolly 3 hours for a topic? you think Confucius was out here making flashcards?! exam questions dont only help you understand the content but they also subconsciously teach you and make u learn internalise that mark scheme so u know exactly what to say for each question to get you the marks, if you want to win you must study and master the game. if you want to get good grades you must study and master the mark scheme.
Disclaimers: obviously everyone is different and people learn in different ways, if u revise this way i wish u luck in your studies 😜😁
