I dont think you will have a question on why was Bis appointed or the significance of economics because they were last years questions, they like to keep it varied.

Dammm theyre the areas im most confident on
What can they test other than economic significance?
Please not the 1848 revolution, i don't really get it!

I think they can do a question like: 'How far was X responsible for Prussia unifying Germany in 1871?' Where X can = Bismarck's diplomacy, public support for unification, the weakness of Austria, the strength of the Prussian army and finally, the importance of the economy.

I remember these factors by: Bismarck Supports Austria's Strong Economy (each word being the respective point). Which ever one X is, the answer it pretty much the same, but with different emphasis.

Cool theory lol, do u have one for part a by any chance?

There are some really nasty ones along those lines such as,

"To what extent was growing German nationalism responsible for German Unification by 1871?"

There are also questions focussing on turning points such as:

"To What extent was the Erfurt Union successful at promoting greater unity in Germany."

They can ask anything like that, just make sure you know your stuff and know how to write then you will do well, if you dont then your in trouble.

Can an Erfurt Union question come up though? The specification says:

- The importance of the 1848 revolutions
- Economic factors favouring unification
- The rise of Bismarck and its political significance to 1871
- Diplomacy and war, 1863–71

I don't see Erfurt fitting in there.

Reply 65

Its come up before on an exam paper, and it could be stated that the Erfurt Union was simply a continuation of the progress against Austria which began during the 1848

Nothing to see here people, move along.

I have a feeling that your not allowed to discuss the exam until 24 hours after it has finished because there are people around the world who could be sitting the same paper in a couple of hours time.

Reply 68

I know that was the case in January, but I can't see any announcements saying we can't this time round, unlike in January.

Reply 69

well this is what OCR ?
usually their screaming about Ed-Excel!? Because its an international paper...gets sent everywhere!

Did you do well Dan?

Reply 70

Sorry, I was assuming this was a discussion about the Edexcel paper which is entitled exactly the same.

Reply 71

It may have been the Edexcel paper :ninja: My lips are sealed.

Reply 72

Hahahaha. Whoops sorry! No idea!!

I assumed it was OCR - because people kept mentioning it! before!

Reply 73

Well, 24 hours are long gone now. I thought I did quite well, I was more confident when I immediately came out of the exam than I am now (as I remember the stuff I should have put in :p:) but overall I'm quite pleased.

I did the question 'Why did Friedrich Wilhelm reject the crown in 1849?' and 'How important was the favourable international circumstances in Prussia becoming the dominant state in Germany in the years 1863-1871?'. I probably didn't focus on the favourable international circumstances as much as I should have done, but I think I did just about enough.

Reply 74

i did that question aswell...did u also put in other factors lice economy, social reforms, military regenaration etc?

and for thr frankfurt parliament did u write mostly about the failured but angle it towards FW?

Reply 75

For the 40 marker I put stuff about the economy (and its impact on the army), extent of support for Prussian leadership (I think I did anyway) and the weakness of Austria. I wish I had put the quote: 'The Zollverein is the chief nail in the coffin of the German Confederation... Prussia is now taking over the actual leadership of Germany's policy, Austria's leadership is mere formality.' (by an Austrian guy in the Diet). But I forgot it, which is really bugging me :<

Don't quite understand what you mean for the 20 marker  I put how he believed in the divine right of kings (got a nice couple of quotes in there :p:), the strength of the conservatives (the counter revolution) and also the failure of the Frankfurt Parliament (mainly the long wait in the constitution).

Reply 76

ah yeh thats a good quote..well for the 40 marker i wrote about the international setting but then said it was also a range of factors..such as military reform and Roon which wudnt have been possible to fund without zollverein and economic progressivism...and manteuffels reforms created a stable society so bismarck could concentrate on his foreign policyy..and a bit about bismarcks diplomacy. But forgot to put about Austrian descendency!

for the 20 mark i wrote stuff like it looked weak thru the schleswig holsten sitution and took to long to grant a constitution so that dissuaded FW4th from joining..and also divine right, possibility of war with Austria, and handing all power to the parliament...and how he wudnt have liked it that it was unrepresentative cus he was quite liberal.

hopefully we've done ok!

I did that question as well but I was panicking a bit and I don't think I explained enough. For the 40 marker I wrote he made alliances with France and Italy and Italy wasn't keen on Austria because of the Crimean war and therefore he could manipulate the situation better. I think I wrote that Austria was an outsider because of the Zollverein and the economic factors were that the there were lots of iron and coal and therefore they could build railways and stuff. I don't really know if that's relavent though!

Reply 78

yep i think it should be relevant! we got taught that on all how far q's you should talk about the main point first (i.e. favourable international setting) but then talk about how there were other factors which were all interlinked in helping unification:
1.good economy
2. social stability
3.Austrian descendency
4. Bismarck and diplomacy
5. good military
6. rise in nationalism

if you expanded on a few of these you should be fine i think!

Anyone know what the other question was about?
Lol, thank god for TSR.
