Football or rugby at KCL?

This really isn't a HUGE problem, and I know I'll eventually have to make the decision myself, just looking for some opinions.

Sport is a BIG part of my life. I love both rugby and football, and have played both at a pretty high level (county rugby, prem academy football but ages ago).

I'd have to say football was my first love and I know I'm naturally better at it, but so many things are telling me that I should choose rugby.

1. Socially rugby is usually better
2. I'm a bit of a gym/fitness freak and rugby suits me better in this sense
3. I think rugby is held in higher regard among prestigious unis
4. Some girls love a rugby player! (You can tell I'm running out here)

So what do you guys think? I know it seems like a really minor problem but it's bugging me!

#ff# (don't ask)

I'm in exactly the same position I have played a top level of rugby and played academy football (not prem), but I hear Kings are crap at rugby so I'm thinking about going for football, but I think what you say about rugby being more social is def true.

At least we're not alone! Would you say you are better at rugby or football? Oh and you go to QEH? My school is called QEB lol (Queen Elizabeth's, Barnet) - there must be something about the Queen and sports!

Why don't you try them both out and pick the one you have most fun doing? One might have a better crowd and decide it for you.

I would say I am a more natural footballer, I wasn't allowed to play football at school coz I was good at rugby and are school had a very good rugby team, I'm only 5"9 so I was used for my speed, So I was basically forced to play it, But I enjoyed and was good 7's, So I'm Thinking I might try both then decide, Or I might play football and see If KCL have a sevens team, but I'll w8 n see, but I'll have to practice football coz I'm a bit rusty.

Would you be playing for GKT or KCL? (What subject are you gonna do at King's?)
Cause GKT are much better at rugby than KCL.

Mate, we are pretty much the same person lol. I'm the same height as you and was originally used for my speed/footwork as well, though I'm not as fast as I used to be anymore cause I ruptured my cruciate ligament and had to change my game a bit. Loved 7s as well! I do love rugby though, just not as much as football I think.

If I'm not doing medicine can I still play for GKT?
Reply 8
Yeah, as long as it's medically related.
Don't ask me which subjects fall under that, but it'll be the subjects based at Guy's Campus, roughly.

Ah I'm doing English Language and Communication so it looks like I won't be playing for GKT then. I'm edging towards football at the moment....
Ah, KCL have much better sports nights than GKT, anyway.
(saying this as a rower - the only club that gets both of them)

Well I'm doing maths, management and Finance So I won't be playing for GKT
Boys, boys, I take back what I said!
You get to choose. I met a Strand GKT rugby player today.
Apologies for misleading you.

Starting the same course in October hopefully, and definitely looking forward to joining the football team. It's a shame though i think you have to work your way up, from 6th to 1st team i think.

Rugby at King's College is one of the founding members of the RFU and is in the same league as most of the London universities (inclusing KCLMS who claim to have a better team without any justification) KCL rugby have been in the final of the gutteridge (ULU) cup for two years in a row and has a professional Championship coach (and therefore has great links with the professional clubs (the main one being Esher with great links with Wasps).

As for the social side of rugby - they have players that have not played at great standards and love the club, on a Wednesday night at the students union the rugby team is a clear competitor for the most social team and has a great tour every year.

With rugby for KCL as apoosed to KCLMS you get the annual Varsity fixture against UCL which draws huge crowds from both universities and is a great game to play in!
