Car insurance is due for renewal, was paying £1.7k last year, have earned 2 years NCB. All was good and well got a quote for £800 when putting down the address I ACTUALLY live at (lincolnshire) but the car isn't kept here, it's at my family's house as I didn't bring the car with me when moving since I had no plan to drive it around here, no need. But my dad needs to use my car, he is insured to drive anyone's car so it's not an issue of additional driver making it higher as he doesn't need to be added but when I put the car is kept (london) same address as last year the price is now a whopping £3000?! I haven't made any claims, had a black box installed, never sped in fact I rarely drove it since I live elsewhere? I find it ironic because they say lincolnshire has the worst drivers and roads .
Is it possible it has anything to do with my dad having a policy cancelled by insurance at the address? Because I can't for the life of me see why I'm being quoted £3-4k now and that's with me adding 2 years NCB and NOT adding him as an additional driver... help? I've tried searching individually with the actual providers, clearing history and cache still no good.
Held my license for 2 years now, I'm 20 and car is a peugeot 206 1.1 5 door worth about £500.

It's only worth £500, it's in London, there's a history of cancelled policies at the address (albeit not in your name), and you very rarely drove it - I'm not surprised at the cost.

Is the renewal premium with your existing insurance company or is it a separate quote?
Did you have your dad (or anyone else) down as an additional driver on your last insurance and have now taken him off for the new quotes?
The only reasons the insurer will have cancelled your dad's policy are: non-payment, non-disclosure and fraud. That may have increased the actuarial assessment of insuring people with the same surname, sharing that address as their residence and where the vehicle is kept. I'm not an expert though.
You could try ringing the companies quoting you and ask them why the premiums are so high.

No he's never been on my policy. Technically his insurance getting cancelled wasn't his fault and an additional driver who had an accident and didn't tell him tbh. I will be calling around as I think it's ridiculous to charge so much based off of the history of an another.

Insure it in Lincolnshire and bring it with you?
That makes no sense, the first policy I took out when I passed was around 2.5k, the second year decreased by 1k, third year rose again. Me hardly driving has nothing to do with it how would they know that? The cancelled policy thing makes more sense really. I can't bring it to Lincolnshire as my dad needs to use it for the time being. Also I have 2 years NCB so does that count for jack s*** or what?

Your declared mileage and black box mileage history, perhaps?
Are you with More Than Smart Wheels by any chance?
I was last year they quoted me £1k but thought we could we could get better so cancelled auto renewal. Really wanted to get rid of the black box and in general they company was rubbish.

Yeah, I'm with them now. Didn't really have another choice, they charged me £1.7K and the next cheapest was £4.5K

However you frame the accident, contractually, he will be liable if he was the primary driver.
Was it only when the other party made a claim against your dad's insurance, that he became aware of the accident? All accidents must be reported irrespective of who was to blame. Withholding that information for whatever reason would breach the non-disclosure contract clauses and the insurance company can then cancel the contract. It would mean that the other parties damages would be met by their own comprehensive policy and through uninsured loss recovery with no liability to cover the costs from your dad's underwriter.
Worse, if your dad claimed he was the driver in order to protect the named driver (was that you?) from affecting any future declaration and independent insurance premium hikes, then that would be fraud. It could easily be checked by insurers based on corroboration of the accident statements of both parties.
A cancelled policy at the address will impact you - what was it for again?
I am on the phone to admiral insurance, they pulled up 3 incidents that aren't related to me but my parents in the last 3 years, could that be it too? The cancelled policy was because my dad had an additional driver who had an accident and didn't bother telling him.

Yes that I understand, it was literally a case of the additional driver didn't tell him about the accident and he only found out when a claim was made. The additional driver was also a friend of his who lives down the road. If he was aware he would have let the insurance know straight away but I guess this "friend" chose to withhold this info.

I know it sucks.
Have you picked up any points on your licence?
Then with the history of three accidents in as many years, and because you leave the car at that address, they may easily deem the household as a higher risk. All said and done, it's up to the insurer to make an offer at whatever rate they assess the perceived risk - or none at all, they are not obliged to insure you.

Nope, no points or anything on my license, as I study away I only drive the car when I'm back there and drive normally. Guess it's back to smart wheels as they were able to quote me £1,100 with a black box, was hoping to get rid of the box though
