I have my english lit exams next month!
Macbeth:
“is this a dagger i see before me”
“oh full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife!”
“the castle of macduff i’ll suprise.. give to the edge of the knife his wife, his babes”
Lady Macbeth:
“what’s done is done and cannot be undone”
“when you durst do it, then you were a man”
“come you spirits”
“unsex me here”
“you’re too full o’th milk of human kindness”
“have pluckd’ my nipple from thy boneless gums”
“i have given suck”
“fill me from the crown to the toe , top full of direst cruelty”
“screw your courage to the sticking place and we’ll not fail”
Banquo:
“look how our partners rapt”
“dare me to the desert with thy sword”
“as the weird women promised”
Macduff:
“one fell swoop”
“pretty chickens”
“but i must also feel it as man”
Malcolm:
“weep our sad bosoms empty”
“the worthy thane of ross”
“why do we hold our tongues”
Donalbain:
“there’s daggers in men’s smiles”
“hid in an auger hole may rush and seize us”

Banquo:

'Speak, then, to me, who neither beg nor fear/ Your favours or your hate.' (Act 1 Scene 3)
Techniques: Juxtaposition, Repetition, Imperative
Analysis: Banquo acts as a foil to Macbeth as he chooses not to act on his ambition but remains curious. (His temperament contrasts with Macbeth's)

'that dauntless temper of his mind.' (Act 3 scene 1)
Technique: Personification or Metaphor
Analysis: Macbeth describes Banquo as brave and fearless and so is threatened by Banquo's superior qualities.

Macduff

'this noble passion/Child of integrity' (Act 4 Scene 3)
Technique: Noun phrase
Analysis: Malcolm trusts Macduff. The adjective 'noble' has connotations of warmth and compassion. He is honest and has integrity, also being a foil to Macbeth as he has a strong sense of loyalty and love for his country.

'I have no words:/My voice is in my sword (Act 5 Scene 8)
Technique: Metaphor
Analysis:Macduff's persona is that of a soldier who is guided by a strong sense of justice but lacks wisdom as he lets his sword speak for his actions. The swords acts as a conduit to express his feelings/emotions.

Hope this helped

Get the app Litcharts on your phone and you can search up any textbook you are studying and find quotes and analysis for them. The app is quite useful
