Law with Politics, RG / good non-RG

Hi,

So I'm in y13, predicted ABB + B in EPQ (which I have gotten an A in) and have just firmed Lancaster (ABB+B / AAB) and have put Oxford Brookes (112UCAS) as my insurance. I also received an offer of AAB at Cardiff. I chose Lancaster over Cardiff because when I looked around Cardiff, I strongly disliked it - the accommodation, the run-down buildings etc. I also preferred Lancaster because it is rural and I'm somebody who is easily distracted (city-life would be a nightmare).

Now, all was fine and dandy until my dad has a chat with his boss who says that I've made a massive mistake.

Apparently top London law firms will completely disregard my application and I have no hope of becoming a London Barrister.

I'm now very very worried and I'm not sure whether or not I should go through adjustment / clearing on results day to try to get into a RG university - at the risk of hating it and buckling under pressure + not being with friends and generally throwing myself head first into the unknown.
It will not matter.

If you want to go to the bar, get a high first and do the BCL. Only someone who doesn't know anything about legal work would say that Russell Group is necessary, especially when the RG and non-RG are so similar.

Thank you for your help!

I was also thinking about possibly doing a masters in a specialised subject before doing the BAR etc. I was planning to do the masters at a "better" university if I come out with a first / high 2.1 to basically 'make-up' for not going to a RG uni - what would be your take on this, do you think it would help or just be a waste of time?

I considered becoming a barrister because of the fancy black outfit and wigs you get to wear but after watching several court sessions I was like "**** this". Court discussion get so boring as barristers ask such irrelevant questions at times and as a barrister you will mostly likely have to work at the High Court where court sessions are REALLY long, just imagine the boredom there. Plus you will also have to work under strict deadlines, sometimes you will even have just 1 DAY to prepare a court argument!

BCL is postgrad at Oxford, so basically a master's. It can help with bar work.

But all this is a long way away. Take solace in the fact that Lancaster is a pretty good law school and try to ignore your dad's boss. Like most bosses, they like to seem as if they know stuff even if they don't.
