Fellow IB Students. For a class project, we conducted a study to find the BEST ONLINE WEBSITES & RESOURCES FOR IB STUDENTS.

This study was conducted with the help of over 3,500 IB Students around the world. The goal of this project was to give IB Students an idea of what online resources they should be using to help with their study and boost their grades. The results of the main IB subjects can be found below:

------------- IB Chemistry ---------

Ranked #1 Richard Thornley – YouTube Channel
Score: 4.6 (out of 5)
Description: Richard Thornley’s YouTube channel came in at #1 in the Chemistry Rankings. It is free, extensive and directly aligned to the IB Curriculum. It is the perfect resource to accompany your Chemistry Teacher.

Ranked #2 MSJChem– Website
Score: 3.9 (out of 5)
Description: This easy to use website is very helpful for IB students studying Chemisrty SL & HL. The website is basically free (There is a Member’s area for $10) and has a bunch of nice short videos. Nice simple website!

Ranked #3 Khan Academy – YouTube Channel
Score: 3.7 (out of 5)
Description: If you haven’t heard of Khan Academy, do yourself a favour and google it. It has everything! The only downside of Khan Academy is that it’s not directly aligned to the IB Curriculum. However, it is a fantastic free resource for all subjects, not just Chem!

---------IB Mathematics ----------

Ranked #1 Revision Village – Website
Score: 4.9 (out of 5)
Description: Revision Village came in at #1 in the Mathematics Rankings by a considerable margin. This website has become a must have for all first and second year IB students. The website features a complete HL/SL/Studies Exam Questionbank, Practice Exams, step-by-step video tutorials to all questions including all past IB papers. The website has a Free and Premium (RV Gold $49) Membership option. Highly recommended!
Note: RV Gold also topped the rankings of the #1 Paid Resource by IB Students in this study.

Ranked #2 IB Maths Resources – Website
Score: 4.3 (out of 5)
Description: This is a big website filled with lots of useful links and videos. If you’ve never come across this site before, start by exploring the IB Maths SL/HL/Studies Videos tab at the top of the website. This website also has a huge library of IA examples and is a great place for students to get ideas.

Ranked #3 Studynova
Score: 3.1 (out of 5)
Description: This website is run by an IB Physics and Maths teacher (Mitch Campbell) and hosts mathematics videos and practice questions. The website has some free sections for Maths SL & Studies (sorry no HL resources…) but most of the site is in behind a big paywall which is very expensive ($199 USD…..). Feedback from students in this study is that some of the free videos are useful but the paid sections are not worth the money and the practice questions are unfortunately a lot easier than actual IB exams.

------------- IB Biology -------------

Ranked #1 Stephanie Castle – YouTube Channel
Score: 4.2 (out of 5)
Description: Stephanie Castle’s YouTube channel came in at #1 in the Biology Rankings. The YouTube channel features IB Biology videos tutorials for the course arranged by standard, including many written explanations - narrowed down to exactly what you need to know. Very nice resource and Free.

Ranked #2 Bioninja - Website
Score: 3.9 (out of 5)
Description: In the #2 ranking is the nice and simple website - Bioninja. This website hosts a variety of IB Biology resources and is similar to MSJChem. Worth checking out!

-------------- IB Physics ------------

Ranked #1 Chis Donner – YouTube Channel
Score: 4.1 (out of 5)
Description: A great Free YouTube Channel for IB Physics Students! This channel features a variety of videos lessons/tutorials that are intended for IB Physics students and teachers. Most lessons include sample IB questions that you can attempt solving as Chris goes through the solutions. Highly recommend!

Ranked #2 Khan Academy – YouTube Channel
Score: 3.9 (out of 5)
Description: Khan Academy is a free website that hosts thousands of easy to understand videos on Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Maths. Great resource!

Ranked #3 Studynova - Website
Score: 3.4 (out of 5)
Description: This website is run by an IB Physics and Maths teacher (Mitch Campbell) and hosts Physics SL-HL videos and practice questions. The free YouTube Channel originally hosted all of the videos however Studynova looks like they have recently put most of their resources onto the main website behind pay walls.... (a shame for IB Students). The Studynova Physics online resource is okay but once again not really worth $250 USD. Try the free videos on Mitch Campbell’s YouTube channel instead.

Group 4 & 5 - Top Rankings

IB Chemistry: Richard Thornley (4.6)

IB Mathematics: Revision Village (4.9)

IB Biology: Stephanie Castle (4.2)

IB Physics: Chis Donner (4.1)

Group 1-6 Results will be posted soon. Thank you to all of the IB Students who helped with this study. Hopefully, the results can help students study effectively throughout their IB journey.

All the past papers you need through to 2018 are here: Past Papers for free

Think Revision Village is very expensive compared with other alternatives
Not at all. I bought it for $120 for 3 years. Maths Studies, SL and HL revision videos (which I dont really like, too quick) but excellent questions & past paper questions, especially the fact that they have videos for the solutions rather than mark schemes. You could spend hours for months doing all the questions they have.
The only downside is they dont offer Options, as far as Im aware, which is rather disappointing.
