Hi,

So, once you have Reading as your firm choice you'll be able to apply for halls and if you have an unconditional offer you will receive an accommodation offer within a couple of weeks of making your accommodation application.

This doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be getting your first or second choice as it is more dependent on the room that you choose and the other applications already received. As such, some of the very limited room types may not be available. However, if you are selecting a larger room type such as premium en suite in Childs, you should have a good chance of getting it, but I cannot guarantee this.

I have known people from a variety of halls and the general consensus is that they have enjoyed whichever hall they have been in.

Those in the Park Group have a great social area very close by called Park Bar which is popular with lots of students. This also serves food throughout the day so is good if you choose a catered hall such as Windsor or Dunsden Crescent which are both nearby. In the Park Group there are lots of premium en suite rooms which are popular in Mackinder, Stenton and Childs Halls

There are a variety of rooms available in the Nourthcourt group of halls which have a good proportion of the standard en euite rooms available in Benyon and Sherfield. This group is completed by St. Patricks hall which is a shared bathroom catered hall.

I personally stayed in a standard en suite room in St. George’s and really enjoyed it. It is a slightly smaller hall but was still very sociable and I met plenty of people here. St. George’s has both en suite and shared bathroom options available. However, all rooms are self catered with good sized kitchens. St. Geore’s isn’t too far from Park Bar but also has a large common room which is good for socialising.

We have Bridges and Wessex which are on the opposite side of campus to the majority of the halls but there is a bar close to them which is popular. Also, the halls both have a common room which is helpful.

You can see a map of the halls here: https://www.reading.ac.uk/web/files/accommodation/Walking_distances_to_halls.pdf

I think the most important things for you to think about when making the decision are:
- Do you want an en suite or to share a bathroom?
- Do you want a catering package or to cook for yourself?

After you answer these two questions it’ll narrow down your choices and make the choice easier.

I hope that helps, if you have any other questions please let us know.

Reading answered it pretty much

Your firm is your first choice I believe, so if you miss your offer you can get none of your choices. However, if it's unconditional it's your number 1 choice and you don't technically have a second choice as that's where you'll be going unless you firm another university.

Hello,

Sorry no-one has got back to you on this question, I lived in Bridges Townhouses in my first year and yes they do have 4ft beds (like Stenton). In terms of bedding I think I found this a bit difficult to find, so I recommend Dunelm Mill if you are based in the UK.

Any other questions, just let us know!
