Check out the uni's accommodation and SU pages. You can find students here.

Hey, I've moved your thread so it shows in both St Andrews University and University of Stirling forums - hopefully people will see this and be able to help

st andrews is one of the best universities in the UK, stirling is an average uni... how can it be a hard decision?!

St. Andrews has the better Quidditch team. Nothing else matters

Jokes aside, you should probably consider giving the places a visit. St. Andrews and the surrounding coastline is beautiful, I’m not sure about Stirling but it’s Scotland so it’s probably beautiful there. If you can, take an open day. If you’re from far away, it might be worth checking if the open days coincide at the two unis. If you can’t do that, take a look around on google maps and see which one you like the look of more. St Andrews is a great university and I would highly recommend it to anyone, but don’t let other people tell you the right university for you

I am a psychology student at Stirling which is also where I was brought up.
What information are you actually looking for? Different people choose their universities based on their own needs and desires so we may have very different interests in our choices.

They're really different universities, so I would defs visit to help you make up your mind. For example, Stirling is a campus university on the edge of the town (though Stirling is small so it's close enough to the centre), whereas St Andrews *is* the town. Stirling has a better reputation for sport in general, although St Andrews excels in some specific sports. I don't know what aspects of Psychology you're interested in, but St Andrews also offers a full Neuroscience degree (Stirling doesn't from what I can see), so if you find that interesting you'd be able to change your course (you can basically change course to anything you've taken modules in right until the start of third year). Maybe have a look at the research specialisms at both unis and see which ones sound more exciting - certainly at St Andrews the research specialisms influence what gets taught in the degrees.

Accommodation can be pretty expensive in St Andrews, but for the uni stuff, it's either all new/newly refurbished, or it's one of the cool old buildings that's really pretty.

Coming out openly will be totally fine here. We have a really active LGBT+ soc, and we have an annual pride march, and fly the pride flag from Sallies chapel regularly. Here's our LGBTIQ+ staff role models page: https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/lgbtiqmodels/ , and our LGBT+ life page https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/stories/2018/lgbt-life/ . I think we're also the only scottish uni to have the LGBT Youth Scotland LGBT Charter award.

Stirling is campus based and St. Andrews is small town based with uni buildings dotted around the town. St. Andrews is Scotland’s named too uni but it’s what you feel comfortable with and if your looking for town or campus.
