I've heard so much great stuff about Newcastle. I was just wondering if any of you study english at Newcastle and could tell me if it's a good course to be on and if it's a good place to live??? Thanks, xxx
I can't tell you anything about the course or newcastle itself as Ive never been but all I can suggest is the open day on Oct 2nd. Im going there to see the Fine Art department.
Newcastle as a place is amazing. Don't know anything about the English department but do know someone that does something like English so I'll ask her.

I graduated this year from Newcastle in English lit. I have to say I'm incredibly jealous that you have the chance to start the course, as my student days are all over! I really enjoyed the course and the city. Over 1/3 of Newc uni students go on to stay in Newcastle after they graduate (alllegedly!), and once you've stayed there a while you know why! A really fun place to be. The course is excellent, well regarded by future employers and you have a lot of choice after 1st year about what you study. I ended up doing half my modules in Film studies...although came out with a pure English degree. Alternatively you could study shakespeare, medieval lit, theory, creative writing...etc etc. If you go i recommend world headquarters nightclub, avoid blu bambu at all costs!
Obviously things have changed since you were here! Blu Bambu is most populare club on Wednesdays!
It's been popular since it opened...doesn't make it a good night! The last time I went there i spent half an hr q-ing to get a drink and there's no space to dance. Eventually you do get sick of the 'which uni is the best: Newcastle or Northumbria' contest they have every night, and the drunken girls snogging on the stage for a free bottle of cava. But then maybe I'm just past it or missed the fun of it somehow! hey - each to their own.
