hey, so this is my first post but im feeling really lost in terms of uni right now so i thought id post here i guess.
basically, im nearing the end of my first year at uni of nottingham, currently studying english. last term, i decided i want to drop out. i hate my course (english lit), i dont really like most of my friends and i definitely dont like the people im meant to be living with next year. im really not a fan of the 'traditional' uni culture at notts... i guess i havent really found my people. my halls are full of people who seem to love sports, love clubs such as pryzm or nights like crisis (very poppy and society-orientated, i guess i prefer more alternative/hip-hop kinda nights). there's quite a big lad culture too which i guess comes from the sports and societies - none i've really enjoyed so far except the radio one. theres hardly any smaller gigs going on here either, which sucks for me. so yeah basically i hate it here and i hate my course, just for some irrelevant background info lol.
i've instead applied for english and film studies, and also journalism at sussex. i just wanted a summary of how sussex is in like a social aspect, night life, the kinda people that generally go there in comparsion to notts - and of course how good it is academically for the courses i've picked!
any advice would be appreciated, cheers in advance. just to clarify, i'm joining sussex as a first year again - not transferring to second.
(PS i've applied for manchester and leeds too, so any advice on how they also compare would be cool! but im mainly leaning towards sussex rn)

You can use the above for Manchester and Leeds. I would have thought both of those were better.
or contacting the SU societies depending which course you wish to do.

Hey man! I'm currently finishing my Foundation Year @ Sussex and I'll be going into my first year in September. The night life in Brighton is amazing and vibrant, there are numerous different places to go all week (hip-hop/jazz/pop/rock/metal/anything). As for lad culture, obviously it exists everywhere but it's a lot more toned down. Sussex is a very liberal uni and Brighton is a very liberal place in general so there's a general air of respect and love. Basically we're all a big bunch of hippies. I don't study any English-y subjects but the library is massive, if that helps?Hopefully I'll see you next year
Hope I could help
