is party membership an example of direct democracy?
I'd say it depends on which party we are talking about! (And the context)

Think about party leadership elections for example; for the Conservative party, their leader is elected from within parliament, meaning that their members did not have a direct input over who leads them. However, if we look at the most recent Labour party leadership election, all registered members and affiliated supporters were able to vote on a "one member, one vote" system, which is an example of direct democracy.

So, always consider the context within which you judge parties to be a form of direct democracy.

I hope this has helped!

It is not recommended to use political parties as you are voting for an invidual, I know for a fact being a member so it’s representative democracy, is use referendums, community forums, petitions to government, and to a small extent pressure groups
