Celebrities are not as dumb as they seem. When they open their mouths on politics, or other more complex topics that they know little about, yes, they can come across as uninformed. But they've got a business model that works for them and they milk it to death.

As for the OP.... I think it is perfectly possible, just harder. There are intelligent people that struggle to work up motivation to do anything, because they find it all too easy and get bored of things too quickly to see them through to the end. There are some that simply can't be arsed either.
Hard work, dedication, strategy.... these things do wonders for people, even moreso than intelligence.
Intelligent people have an advantage in the sense that they can quickly learn new skills, and so it is quite easy for them to switch professions and try out new things. Less intelligent people learn slower, and so probably prosper more when they specialize in
one task, and get really good at it. You can still earn a good living that way. You may be a slow learner, but if you've been specialising in something for 20 years, you have all the time in the world to get good at it.
Having relatively low IQ doesn't preclude someone from doing reasonably well.
Unless it's like 50 IQ, then yes, you're probably in trouble.
