Ofc, look at all these so called 'celebrities' nowadays. But by 'go far' in a more everyday context such as a decent job, family etc. then ofc, be sensible in your career aspirations, put the hours in and so forth.

Celebrities are not as dumb as they seem. When they open their mouths on politics, or other more complex topics that they know little about, yes, they can come across as uninformed. But they've got a business model that works for them and they milk it to death.

As for the OP.... I think it is perfectly possible, just harder. There are intelligent people that struggle to work up motivation to do anything, because they find it all too easy and get bored of things too quickly to see them through to the end. There are some that simply can't be arsed either.

Hard work, dedication, strategy.... these things do wonders for people, even moreso than intelligence.

Intelligent people have an advantage in the sense that they can quickly learn new skills, and so it is quite easy for them to switch professions and try out new things. Less intelligent people learn slower, and so probably prosper more when they specialize in one task, and get really good at it. You can still earn a good living that way. You may be a slow learner, but if you've been specialising in something for 20 years, you have all the time in the world to get good at it.

Having relatively low IQ doesn't preclude someone from doing reasonably well.

Unless it's like 50 IQ, then yes, you're probably in trouble. :frown:

I don't mean all, but some reality tv stars and such are not where they are today due to their intellect.

President Trump is a very stable genius with dragon energy.

EDIT: And he knows words, he has the best words.

Yes, just ask the cast of TOWIE*...assuming that is regarded as going far of course!

*insert any other rubbish reality tv trash here
The honest truth is, yes they most certainly can, many people get into positions of power for various reasons, it is not all about how clever you . A lot is about who you know etc.

Yes.See the current POTUS. A classic case of someone who is too stupid to know they are stupid.

Being smart doesn't automatically make you more skilled, so yes they can. It might make it easier for them to become more skilled though, and less intelligent people will have to work a lot harder for it.

Some people are more creative instead, and creative intelligence is a thing so someone not that smart academically can have more creative intelligence, so some people can be successful in a creative career, like photography, art.

Also intelligence is something that can develop, while you do have natural intelligence which can partly be from genes, you can become smarter, by studying, and doing a lot of work.

He has a high IQ of over 150. I still think he is stupid though and that IQ doesn't always determine intelligence.
I made it to eighteen...

all a matter of luck really
overall no
but those jade goody/white dee types who were able to cash in on their stupidity are the rare ones who can make it. and thats just luck of the draw really, you've got just as much chance of being famous as you have winning the lottery. so again its all a matter of luck

Donald Trump is literally President of the United States right now.

More generally, intelligence is relative and poorly defined - just because someone isn't good at academic things doesn't mean they are dumb, per se, and the reverse is also true; Ben Carson is an excellent example of someone who is ostensibly intelligent (being a neurosurgeon) who is also mind numbingly stupid in pretty much every other way.

So it's not really worth dwelling on; you are what you make of yourself. Just beware the Dunning-Kruger effect, and you should be fine  Push yourself beyond your limits, but be aware of what those limits are while you are doing so...
