what to wear for a gig

basically im going to this gig in may (long way yet..but whateverr)
and i havent got a clue what to wear..its gonna get really hot in there so i need something breathable. the thing is i went to one the other week and what i was wore a dress -TOTALLY THE WRONG thing to wear.
my friends are gonna wear shorts and like t-shirts.
but i dont like wearing t-shirts coz i dont really like my stomach being highlighted..im size 10/12.
and im not really a fan of shorts.:s-smilie:
any ideas?

I find jeans are fine and I generally wear a t shirt with them - maybe you could wear a thin shirt or light hoody?
But at 10-12 you probably don't have to worry about your stomach too much. If it really bothers you maybe you could wear a wide belt or something?

Just make sure you wear shoes which aren't likely to come off; I like trainers cos they stay on and it doesn't really hurt if people stand on your feet. :p:
Depends on the gig really but I'd usually stick on a pair of jeans 'n an old top / hoodie.

Though, like I said, depending on the type of gig things can vary.

Nothing beat turning up to Motion City Soundtrack gig sporting a cannibal corpse top.

ohh cool thanks..
i went to enter shikari last week..THAT WAS CRAZY. but i loved it
gigs are the most casual and laid back nights out, it doesnt really matter what you wear! just something comfy is always good, i ususally wear black skinnys and band shirt or blouse but then thats what i wear every day anyway.

Would they stuff. :p:

I went with my mates so I was happy enough having a gander at the bar and then jumping into "so called" pits.
It depends largely on WHO you're seeing... for instance when I went to see Less Than Jake I knew it wouldn't be wise to anything thick as I'd be be boiling, but when I saw Muse I wore an Absolution hoody (well, I was sitting, so that made a difference).

..yeah.
If you're going to be standing, stick to jeans and a simple top (t-shirt or vest top)

Because you will get soaked with sweat and beer, and you will just want to jump around and not worry about ruining your clothes.

Unless, of course, you're going to see Celine Dion. In which case you have much bigger things to worry about than your clothes.
Me and my sister recently took the parents out to a rock/blues gig, and the poor thing hadn't been to a gig before and turned up in Ugg boots. I was wearing New Rocks.. suffice to say I got the better end of the deal after being pushed, shoved and trodden on.

Hard, strong footwear is a necessity. Jeans are good. and nothing too valuble as it'll probably get covered in beer anyway lol.

I'd suggest jeans, a tee and some runners, casual shoes or some cute flats. Or wear a loose white shirt and belt it.

It really depends on the gig you're going to and what genre they fall into.

I once went to a VNV Nation gig, didn't realise their fan base are basically all goths, so I turned up in light jeans, a colourful top & white flats and EVERYONE there was in black full on goth dress. I felt a little awkward, haha.

you'd be more screwed turning up to a Cannibal corpse gig wearing a Motion City Soundtrack hoody...!
Yeah nothing thick. I made this mistake the other week and very nearly collapsed. Oh well.
What band? I like flamboyant music so my style doesn't really change (bright pink shoes, flouncy dress, patterned tights, lots of accessories), but standing out is brilliant anyway, nothing beats being surrounded by people in jeans and being told by Dee Plume that she really likes your top and dress

Personally I always wear a little spaghetti-strap top with a thin hoodie i can then tie around my waist for gigs. Preferably looseish thin trousers as well, I find I get too hot in jeans. But I faint easily at gigs so I really have to be able to lose heat easily.
thin, baggy shirt, not not not jumper
trousers that blumming stay up

and do up your laces on yours shoes. i have lost 2 pairs thru croudsurfing and general croud naughtyness.
Crowd surfers are pricks. The amount of times i've been whacked on the head by flailing limbs is ridiculous.
wear some clothes

Dee Plume is amazing - I pretty much fancy her despite being a straight female...anyway I sort of agree, it doesn't really matter what you wear - I always use gigs as an excuse to wear my most experimental outfits because I think it's a place you can get away with it! Well at the kind if gigs I go to anyway. One thing to definitely pay attention to is shoes though. If you're intending to get to the front of the crowd, don't go for pumps that can fall off and stick to converse or just secure flats instead. My friend once paid for this mistake with a broken toe and the loss of a very nice shoe...
