Was just wandering if there is an available league tables for all the colleges in cambridge uni that offer medicine?
u have the same chances gettin into any college, its like 5 applicants to 1 place at pretty much every college, so dont play the stats game
probably either emmanuel or gonville and caius, but it really doesn't matter what college you go to, the standard should be pretty much the same, but in terms of reputation i'd say gonville and caius.

EDIT: you changed the question!!! it was the BEST not the EASIEST before  just in case i looked silly...

What sort of thing would you be looking for?

All the colleges except Homerton offer Medicine (and I think some of the grad colleges only do grad medicine). Some have a "reputation" for it - e.g. Caius have 25 medics in each year while most colleges have 10-12ish. But that doesn't necessarily translate to them being "better" than the others, especially on an individual level. As for admissions, I'm not sure any are really much easier than others - I know people who made open applications/were pooled to Caius, so it's obviously not that over-subscribed!

It's much more important to pick a college you like than one you think you're more likely to get into, or one that's a fraction higher up the league tables.

If you're female, Newnham is one of the best for Medicine (2nd last year).

As for those easiest to get into...frankly, I don't want a sub-standard doctor, and nor does Cambridge. Have the confidence that you stand a chane against all the competition, and go for it with your head held high -- if you don't believe you can do it, what confidence can the rest of us have in you? Go gettum!

In general the easier colleges, people say, are the newer ones (robinson, churchill etc), the female ones, and Girton and Homerton because they are so far away. However, there is very little difference between any of the colleges. Also medicine is highly competitive throughout the degree. If you are not willing to compete so early on in the application process, then medicine at cambridge is not for you.

the female ones

Hahaha...for Medics? You're joking.

Generally, though, what you say has an element of truth. At least at hte all-female colleges you're not in direct competition with 50% of the population! (Though we are, of course in indirect competition. And once you're here it's direct and fierce!)

Naa not for medicine- I said in general, they have that reputation. I don't know why or if it's the case or not- that's just the impression people have generally given me

The theory goes that there is simply less direct competition here, because half the population can't apply! BUT standards are the same (so the same sort of proportions get rejected...sorry...), and we go to the pool a lot of make sure there is a happy balance of abilities through all the colleges. And, of course, plenty of people do apply directly! (Like me!)

.....and because many females don't want to go to an all female college, presumably.

Yep. Although that matters far less in terms of competition, because so many great people get put in the pool, so direct applicants are still in competition with them.

I have noticed that far more of the Newnham/New Hall medics tend to leave after 3 years though - we only have a couple left in my year. Not sure if that's necessarily a good or bad thing though.

There are rumours that certain colleges are more oriented towards "Who is going to be a good doctor?" and others towards "Who is going to get lots of firsts and do some cool research without necessarily being a practising clinician?" but I'm not sure how true that is.

I thought it was Girton, applications to places is like 3 to 1 easy odds compared to more central colleges kings is normall 6 to 1. (for med)

That was when i applied to do med at cam anyway...

Hmm, are you taking a gap year? Because I don't recall seeing you here:p:

Everyone always replies that 'all colleges have an equal chance of admission'. This can't possibly be true due to the infallibilities of the admissions system.
But anyway, no-one would argue all colleges have an equal likelihood of pooling candidates (more will get pooled from Downing for Law, for example). So maybe the OP meant 'which college am I least likely to be rejected or pooled from?'. This is a reasonable question, as the pool probably isn't the nicest place to be.

Speaking personally: I'm willing to admit that some colleges may well be easier to get into than others. I am not willing to collude with people on an online forum in order to help them apply to that college. If you want to try to play statistics to get here, then you can do that yourself.
Helenia

Was that this year Helenia? I spoke to the admissions tutors and they seemed to imply they had less applicants this year, if so that would make sense.

No, I think it was either last year or the year before that a couple of people on here made open apps and were given Caius. I guess that because it has so many places, it's comparatively undersubscribed if not too many people apply there for the "reputation"

I have wondered, why does G&C have so many places? Its a big College, but still...
