iGCSE French Listening is scary

I need help. It starts off easy and tricks me into thinking hey I think I've finally got the hang of it and then boom comes the last page with its 10 marks to ruin everything. Thing is, I have no problem following the audio till it actually gets around to saying something crucial and then I've suddenly spent the last four years of my life studying something that's apparently not French. Suppose there's a question that asks for why the speaker went to the cinema on Saturday. The audio in my head goes something like this: 'A Samedi, Je suis alle au cinema avec mes amis parce que kjdahf vhiodnfeas vu fsanfvnf fvfdihsfn'
Is this a common problem or is it just me freaking out at the last second every time the important bits come around?
I would appreciate any and all advice you can offer for french listening.
mate trust me it's the case with GCSEs new French spec as well. I can hear everything until it comes to the part I actually need to listen for. That goes so fast I genuinely cannot comprehend what they're saying
