What would happen if I get a lower grade if i resit A levels exams (CIE)?

I took English Language exam in the October/November series 2017. I am retaking it again to improve my grades in the June series 2018.(Haven't finished high school) Would that count as a retake? What will happen if I get a lower grade? Do they keep the highest grade or do I get both grades? BTW I am taking A-levels though the CIE board.
