It was quadratic simultaneous equations, so you had to equalise the two equations, put it into form of quadratic equation and then use quadratic equation or even complete the square to solve.

I did that but I also did: root(4^2-(4*4*1))=0, hence there is only one intersection point

I found it a lot easier and most people I spike to or that I heard said the same. Don't worry hopefully you'll get the grade you're aiming for and you didn't do as bad as you thought.
