With the events in London and more laws* to be brought in using that as a reason. I think we should take a different approach.

As most people aren't running around with medieval swords or exotic knives the measures proposed are ill founded. I would suggest banning pointed knives for sale replacing them with Chinese chef cleavers which can take care of the majority of domestic tasks.

The public should also be taking responsibility for their own safety.
You wouldn't ride a motorbike without a helmet so why shouldn't people be expected to take measures to deal with inner city violence or terrorism.

At the very least the public should get the same type of stab proof vests the police have at a discounted rate if they live in trouble hotspots.

As I was looking into this topic, Dr John Crichton**, the new chairman of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland, wants the sale of pointed kitchen knives to be banned to help reduce the number of fatal stabbings.
He claims the overwhelming majority of knife deaths used kitchen knifes as the weapon.

Something I saw from another thread related to this topic here*** reported that, "at least seven students have been stabbed to death and 12 injured in a knife attack outside a school in northern China, officials say.

The knife-wielding man attacked the students near a secondary school in Mizhi County in Shaanxi province as they were heading home for the day, officials said."

A cleaver wouldn't really prevent knife crime; it's still sharp and capable of serious damage.

And you actually think people should wear knife proof vests? That's a blunt tool if you're trying to stop knife crime.

Or...

Just don't waste money on regulating and banning knives, forcing (the already limited) police force to waste time searching, interviewing and confiscating knives and their wielders since it does **** all.

Same with the gun ban, that did **** all, although, at least that has SOME reason and rationale behind it, and at least now after 20 years were finally seeing SOME decline in homicides. But this knive ban is autistic.

Maybe just track down all the gangs that are involved. Or make police do school visits to teach about the dangers of knife crime.

There's always that absurd way of doing things where you make a gang and keep that gang in your grasp.

A knife ban isn't feasible, we can't just remove things that can be used as a weapon as just about anything can. It may actually lead to more horrific deaths with less humane weapons so it really isn't a good idea.

Everyone properly on gang business has stab proof vests anyway, they'll aim for head and neck

Agreed, but just to point out, there is no 'it may'.

It WILL and it HAS.

I don't think people would agree to a sharp knife ban (probably as likely as the NRA agreeing to a gun ban). also it would probably just lead to gang running around with butchers knives instead..
As for stab proof vest, its a bit different protecting yourself with a helmet on a motor bike which can save you from an accident caused by yourself or others and having to protect yourself from a knife attack with a vest. It shouldn't have to be your responsibility.

Edit: Also I think the money required for a knife ban / subsidising knife proof vest would be better spent on local policing or other crime prevention.

Stupid is your middle name!

The way to get crime down is harsh sentences, prison reform, building more prisons, increasing police number, getting rid of police social policy’s like the reductions in stop and search and reducing poverty.

Most people in the country don't want a police state.

Now a judge has made the similar comments on knives.
