How to not seem like a doc my none uni friend away?

Tittle is meant to say ‘Dick’ not doc jajaja.

Anyway I’m an international student studying in UK. I made some friends few months back and had been spending time with one or two over Easter break. But now I’m in uni again and have got busy with work but my friends want to still hang out.

I feel bad as I don’t have time to hang out every week. But they invite me every weekend to local events or day trips and I just say I can’t.
One friend said to me the other day that I come across sudden of no interest, and that’s they are sorry for always seeing if I’m free.. I want to see them but at the same time I can’t. I’m worried I may be coming off like I have no interest anymore as it’s been a few weeks now since I’ve seen them and really spoken.

Is it mean of me to stop talking and say that I’m busy? Or how do I make them know I am without seeming like I’m pushing them away?

I think as well because they want to make the most of seeing me as I go home in August, but I feel I can’t hang out till end June or when uni if finished.
So I don’t know how to tell them I can’t hang out. Even though I want too.
