Mental health support

What mental health support does Reading uni offer and is it properly available to students?
All uni's have support, probably not as good as Essex.

What mental health support does Reading uni offer and is it properly available to students?

Hi,

This is a question which many students do ask, and as mentioned all University's do have mental health support available to its student, here at Reading is no exception.

Specific support can be found from a number of places (this is not an exhaustive list, however this is what I most recommend to friends and colleagues who are experiencing difficulties).

- Disability Advice Service (DAS), if you already have a diagnosis of a mental health condition (or require other specialist support - Dyslexia for example) this team are really helpful. I personally meet with my DAS adviser at least twice a term to discuss my well-being, as this can fluctuate, and does require regular check ins. Even if you don't, being in regular contact and being known to this service can be extremely beneficial if your mental health can impact upon your work.
There website is: https://www.reading.ac.uk/do/disability-information-landing.aspx

- Counselling and Well-being Service, this multi-disciplinary team (of both mental health advisers and counsellors) is free to access for All Uni of Reading students. This works through a needs based, tailored to individuals work, with more information being found on the link below:

- Other local support networks: (correct at this time)
- Local Psychiatrist support aimed towards students at the University of Reading Medical Center. Which operates during term-time to discuss any medical mental health needs such as medications.
- Local NHS support from Talking Therapies - although an IAPT service, and is typical of most University cities, this one has a hub based on our campus and although not exclusively for Uni Students knowing that they have a local service in Reading is really helpful!

- Other non-mental health specific support services provided by the Uni.
- "Halls Hotline" - for those living in halls, the halls hotline is there in case of emergencies and for those in crisis situations. Which is helpful if required!

I hope this helps, if you have any further specific questions about the support which you may require from the University, please don't hesitate to speak directly with the University (via the weblink below) as they will be able to best inform you of the current services and provisions they could make.

If there are any other questions about the Uni in General do let us know!
