    Hello

Im doing a BTEC and was predicted DDM which I thought was good. However I knew Btecs dont really get much of a chance by the top uni's so I made the following choises for uni...

    Computer science or Computing in

    QM - Rejected :'(
    Royal Holloway :'(
    Brunel - Offer DMM
    UEL - Offer
    London Metropolitan - Offer

But my problem is that I have been reading that Brunel is not such a great uni to go to. Even with my predicition I got rejected from QM and Royal Holloway but some of my classfellows have got offers from Kent and Nottingham with MUCH, MUCH lower predicted grades (althought the offers are still high).

Now im confused and not sure what I should do, go to brunel or somehow try and get into a better uni that is outside london. It seems uni's in london are much harder to get into :'(.

Anyway any advice would be apprieciated.

Really, you see I dont have a clue how employers percieve universities.

Why is Brunel so low in the rankings (as thats all I have to go by) compared to Kent, also why is the student satisfaction so low?

student satisfaction will be low because of the area. I come from Uxbridge and live about 2 minutes away from Brunel and im already bored of the Uxbridge scean having only been 18 for 4 months.

    What about employment?

Is future prospects good, as in Brunel respected amongst employers?

What I want to know is whether brunel really is not worth going to or is it still a well respected Uni.

Im not too fussed about where I go, but naturally I want to make the most of what I can do.

Thanks for that, its reassuring to read that.

Did she speak of brunel much? and if so was it good or bad that she said?

Now its just personal knowledge im after. Im fairly sure I will fine with brunel, just got a bit jealous others got into much higher rank uni's with much lower grades .

The most important thing is that you get a 2:1. Yes someone that graduates with a 2:1 from a red-brick or ancient will have an advantage, but to be perfectly honest with you, they will not have the same advantage if they graduate with a 2:2 from lets say York....and there will be plenty that will achieve a 2:2. Plus you also have to take into account, Brunel is not really in the same league as South bank, Thames Valley etc. So it is not a bad university to go to, just *mediocore* like Kent as someone stated earlier.

My friend liked Brunel. She did a sandwich course inbetween her degree, so that helped her getting employed. In addition she graduated just after the IT Bubble burst in 2002 (which goes to show it is not such a big deal where you graduate from)

If you are bent on going to a uni in the top 30s, then look into foundation years for Comp sci. I know Bath offers one.

I did my first english BA at Brunel in 2006, and although i did a different course to you, what i would say is that Brunel is just very - meh. But, as been pointed out, it is really a case of having a degree, not so much were you got the degree from. Most careers are not that bothered about where you actually got it from - being able to put a high grade degree on your cv is enough.

 OOwkay. Those were some very scary videos (well the 1st one was).

Anyway I spoke to the admissions at Notts and they said that I stand a good chance of being accepted if I applied through Extra with them.

So i'm gonna speak to my tutor on monday and follow through with the risk.

I guess I will still have clearing in the end if it all goes tits up.

Did you go to a Brunel open day?
I remember when i visited i had high hopes set. When i was there i thought the facilities were great and overall it was a good place. Then i realised that it was probably only going to be good for the first year as with everything being on one campus, i felt that in the second year it might be a bit of a pain being away from it all. But each to their own, it depends what you want out of your university experience.
