It's a late first century Christian book usually found in the writings of the Apostolic Fathers (the earliest collection of Christian books outside the NT). It deals primarily with ethics, rituals (like the eucharist and baptism) and church structure. It's important as a historical document for Christians, as it informs them about what the early Christians (those closest to Jesus) were practising. Therefore, it can also act as a good indicator of orthodoxy.
