Teeth whitening professionally?

I have teeth in a terrible state due to not brushing much when I was a kid(it came and went sometimes I brushed for months then stopped for months)

It was just lack of a pattern, as I went to sleep different times each night, wheras when I was at home till 16 I got into the routine as I had a set bed time of brushing at 10.30, then 10 minutes of tv at 10.40 then bed.

Also had bulimia(im a guy) and that of course rotted my teeth

im now 25 and they are a bad colour, but last year I lived in cramped tiny flat full of insects, damp, windows covered in sheets and unable to be opened. Junkie neighbours with all night sex parties landlord came in one day and tried to grab me and illegally evict me(saying I hadnt paid rent but was getting housing benefit paid to him at the time)

Anyway that made me depressed so I didnt brush my teeth and in the months up to september I started to get sore teeth.

I notice the big teeth at the back(are they molars?) started to sort of file down, and I always had bad breath, then one got chipped one day, then in November as I was eating bread half of it came away(though it didnt bleed) then on New Years Eve it was ruined by agony and for the next 10 days I had to take loads of ibroprofen and drink hot salty water to calm nerves, also rubbing toothpaste into gum and tooth calmed it down, until the toothpaste disintegrated naturally, I went through a whole tub of toothpaste in about 2 or 3 days.

Anyway my teeth now are horrible, orangy, not as bad as a smoker or alki but definately not white

Still dont brush evey day as I have been exhausted recently and keep forgetting then rushing to bed, but my breath is disgusting.
I think first things first, you should get yourself to a dentists. I too used to not brush and on a heavy night out I still don't. Since then I have been fraught with problems and have had several of my teeth rebuilt (privately abroad, they just wanted to pull them out in the UK. It's easier.)

I was lucky enough to be recommended for a scheme in London that trains young student dentists to rebuild people's mouths for their third year. However I didn't take up the offer.

Without getting the main problems fixed straight away you are literally just putting a new coat of paint over a dilapidated house. It may look ok for a while but it's useless in the long run.

It can be quite daunting and embarrassing going to the dentist but in the long run it will be worth it. It will be a long and painful task but you will prevent yourself getting chronic abscesses (something I get and have ended up in hospital with poisoning over) and will often clear up a lot of health problems. After the work they put into it and the results you'll immediately see you will take pride in your teeth and look after them.

After that I suggest brushing your teeth like a normal person and I use this Hollywood teeth whitening system that you get for a tenner at Superdrug. Teeth whitening is strictly controlled and potentially dangerous and cost hundreds. There was a TV programme a while back that explained that the high street whiteners are completley illegal and very dangerous.

I hope this helps.

Yeah went to dentists and they said I was ok apart from the tooth that had a massive hole in but wanted £50 to take it out, and as im a student I cant afford that
Hmmm, well you can actually get the money back from dentists visits somehow... i'll see if I can find a link

http://www.ppa.org.uk/ppa/HC1_form_intro.htm

here we go. This form should get you some sort of discount or something on the tooth. I really cannot stress enough looking after your teeth.

And as for the cost, if you want to get your teeth whitened you're looking at about £400 for a professional dentist to do it (and these are the only people licensed to do it). Even the charlatans at spas and high street places is about £100.

If you can afford to get teeth whitened you can afford to get your tooth fixed!

It depends on the word "afford" I have some savings but my regular income doesnt cover my rent and bills so my savings have to be used for everyday things.

But as I have the funds available I could just use them but be skint for a while

Professional teeth whitening is expensive. so it might be worth paying the £50 to have your teeth fixed atm then maybe when you have graduated and have a full time job you can look into getting your teeth whitened.

If you do feel that strongly then you might just have to fork out to get it done. I don't think whitening is covered on the NHS.. I could be wrong though..
To whiten your teeth try eucryl toothpowder. can be bougt in bodycare, wilkos and a lot of pound shops. I didn't clean my teeth for ages and they got really stained but I used this stuff daily and they started to look loads better in about 2 weeks

Bad breath isn't helped by what you eat, have a look at that and also brush your tongue ad use mouthwash

and yeah like little lamb said try the HC1 form

DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM POUND SHOPS!

There is a massive amount of counterfeit good coming in from China and a lot of toothpastes and such are coming in from there that are fake. They can contain a whole loads of weird and terrible things. Get it from a proper, reputable place and not from a pound shop please!

Eucryl toothpowder? Is that definitely safe?
Yes its definitely safe, you can buy it from wilkos and bodycare aswell. its exactly the same at £ shop. most of the toiletries are. They legally aren't allowed to sell stuff that couldbe damaging if ingested!

1. Go to dentist and see what they can do, both with your teeth in general and whitening.
2.Also make an appointment with the hygienist there - it's amazing what a good clean + polish can do sometimes.
3.Ask them for recommendations on whitening products - if you have problems with your teeth there is a chance that some products could cause problems.
4.If none of that works, you could try a cosmetic dentist for whitening + whatever else you need. Will not be cheap though.

Like someone said above, some problems can be worked on by dentitstry students, so it's always worth looking into.

Also get into a dental hygeine routine - brush at least twice a day, floss and use mouthwash.

Being a smoker myself, i am constantly worried about having yellowed teath. If your teeth are bad, you can easily go get them professionally whitened, but that is just simply lazy.

Get some pearl drops (it's a type of toothpaste) which is used by holly-wood thespians. Use it in the morning, and then brush your teeth naturally with a normal every-day use toothpaste. After about a week, you will notice a dramatic change in the colouration.
