Should i change driving instructors? Advice needed

hi, i started learning to drive just before i came to uni and ive had 27 lessons so far but im starting to wonder whether i should change driving instructors and schools.
I mean, ive had 27 lessons and the only manouvere (sp?) ive done is the turn in the road :s: I know some driving instructors focus more on getting the driving right first but i think its getting ridiculous- i spend £20 a lesson and i havent really done much. Its not like im a terrible driver either, my confidence of the road needs improving but i pick things up pretty quickly. Anyway, any advice appreciated :hugs:

Yes i think you should. I had a lot of lessons (30) but that was only because i couldnt get my ass in gear to sit my theory. Once i had to i was more than ready to sit my test and i passed it. I think ur definitely getting ripped off.

It depends, your instructor is a better judge of your driving than you. I think you need to sit down and ask which areas of driving need improving and when you will be ready for your test.

27 lessons and only 1 manoeuvre is a tad odd imo. Which driving school are you with? If it's a big one (AA or RAC) then perhaps phone up someone more senior and ask their advice.

That does sound strange. I had 10 (hour-long) lessons, and had covered all of the manoeuvres in that time. I had a few (2 or 3) 2-hour lessons after that, going over the manoeuvres and a few other things in the week before the test, but that was it. It sounds strange not to have started yet.

Have you asked your instructor about it, told him you want to do more?

Different instructors will do things differently, but 27 lessons seems quite a long time to have only done one manouver. I'd done turn in the road by my second lesson, and the rest after around 10, maybe less.

Like others have said, you could ask your instructor about it and just see what he says?

Yes, I think you should change - it sounds like he's a bit lazy and can't be bothered to teach you anything else.

Check out this link for driving instructors to avoid www.mariamccarthy.co.uk/girls-guide.htm - sounds like he's one of them!
Maybe try a different driving instructor for a few times but stay with your current one. If you feel like you are progressing more with the other one then change.

I would raise this point with your instructor before going with a new one first.
What exactly have you done so far?

I know this thread is old but it kinda applies to me atm

Ive had 10 hours and the only manouver Ive done was a turn in the road ( With my dad not my instructer)

All shes done is drive normally and hill starts.
Wow, I've had around 23 lessons and have done all the manouvere's, but I'm changing to a different instructor cause mine is rubbish and I feel like as if I'm not getting anywhere with him as he just expects me to know it all by myself. Anyway! if you feel comfortable with your instructor and your happy then why not stay but if you don't feel comfortable and feel like your getting no where then try another instuctor.

Hope this helps

That's exactly how I feel about mine! He's taught me some things but I'm sure he leaves some things to me to "assume" and then gets all frustrated when I don't do them. I've had over 30 with mine and he's had me book my test anyway even though I'm not ready because he believes it will make me ready.

Now Im so close to test I dont know if it's worth changing my instructor.

But as for the original post: I am a BAD driver and my instructor isnt totally brilliant, but I had done all the manouevres at least once by 20 lessons. To get to 27 with only one is a total rip-off, and this is coming from somebody who is an INCREDIBLY slow learner driver. All my brain cells went into academia and none were reserved for practical intelligence, sadly!

Anyway, hope this helps!
Sorry for giving this thread another bump...

I think I might have to get my dad to teach me some manoeuvres (sp.?) too, if I carry on not learning any with my instructor for much longer. I've had 15 lessons and haven't even done the hill starts let alone manoeuvres. Like asgrey in the post above me, my brain doesn't seem to be designed for practical learning! I'm almost ready to do my theory test, though.

I agree.
I have been really slow learning to drive but i have to admit i had done more than 1 manouvre in 27 lessons.
