Best advice is to spilt all ur topics into time periods than separate the sub topics within the time period and within the sub topic put themes, key figures and key concepts/events. I find this rlly helps with history ! In terms of essays write on some flash cards the different types of questions and what the best way is to answer them . Hope this helps
