There is a YR 10 Geography residential trip coming up and I suffer from quite bad anxiety that makes it very difficult to stay away overnight at places (Don't judge me!)
I have been told that not going on the trip will reduce my GCSE mark.
Is this true? If so, will the reduction be significant and do they make exceptions for not going?
Thanks.

Which exam board?

It may be you are unable to complete assessed work that you can only do on the field trip.

It may be you cna contact the exam bioard and see if there is an alternative.

Could you take a sibling or best friend?

We never had to go away overnight. We just had one day off timetable and carried out a piece of human and a piece of physical fieldwork. All that they can ask you in your exam (Paper 3) is to evaluate what you did (you can technically make this up but it would be easier if you actually do some fieldwork) Schools have to sign that you did some form of fieldwork away from the school site.

Regarding marks/grades only part of paper 3 is on fieldwork starting off with generic questions before moving onto questions where you have to describe/evaluate your fieldwork. Paper 3 is worth 30%- part fieldwork and partially based on pre release material which you recieve 12 weeks before the examination.

Obviously by doing the fieldwork it will be easier for you to answer questions about it!

Speak to your teacher/parents/friends about it and see what they suggest.
