I've only ever been into the bookies a few times in my life, but everytime the only other people in there have been working class men, specifically old working class men.
Would people agree? Why do you think it's the case?
And you think that the Queen goes to Royal Ascot every year without wagering a few quid?
I suppose the division may be that the working classes can't afford to actually go and watch the horse-racing in person. Casinos seem to have a rather more normal class mix.
rich people gamble with the stock market!! - just a guess
Not sure, I hate walking into local bookies to collect winnings, I get the oddest of looks. Even the staff get suspicious, so I send my dad in now
Working class? Nothing to lose, everything to gain.
It's easy to get hooked if you convince yourself that it'll bring you your "big break".
Heh, the casino in Melbourne was just FULL of people of South East Asian decent.
I think you'll find that the bookies attracts working class males. Some gamble online. Others choose the stockmarket.
Working class young males are the most impulsive and the most desperate for cash.
It's against some religions to gamble.
Because those with the least to loose and most to gain, tend to be working class males. I would have thought that obvious.
My boyfriend, who is from a well off, middle class family, goes to the bookies but I think it's more for something to do when boredom kicks in really. One of my housemates is constantly in the bookies and puts god knows how many bets on a day aswell as about £20 in the roulette machines. I hate going in to the bookies with them, it's such a depressing environment. I'm not for gambling myself but I will have a bet at the races though because it would seem pointless not to.
