I have a psych exam tomorrow and was wondering if Bowlby's Maternal Deprivation Hypothesis was the same as ASCMI (Adaptive, Social Releasers, Critical Period, Monotropy and Internal Working Model)????
Like if the exam asked 'Outline Bowlby's theory of maternal deprivation?' would i include ASCMI???

TIA

NO don't listen to the person above! They're completely different theories.

ASCIMI (which is actually referred to as the evolutionary theory or monotropic theory) is about how and why an infant attaches to a care giver, whereas the maternal deprivation theory refers to the effects of not having a mother, or a mother substitute, during the critical period of life.

If you get a question about maternal deprivation, you'll mention things such as affectionless psychopathy, mental ******ation, the 44 thieves study etc etc.

You will get no marks for mentioning ASCIMI on a question about maternal deprivation (maybe 1 mark at most for mentioning the critical period).
