The question: In his TV series A History of Britain, Simon Schama said that after the Battle of Hastings 'One kind of England was destroyed and another kind of England was set up in its place' How far do you agree with this view? [20 marks]

Any ideas on how to answer this? Thanks

Since advice for structure on essay questions vary, I'll just say the content you should include and what the question is asking rather than how to exactly structure it.

The question from my understanding is asking to compare England from before the Norman conquest to afterwards. So I would make a point that as the statement suggests, England has changed a lot as a result from the Norman conquest ie: new courts, Feudalism, 50 castles throughout England etc... I would also make another point that the statement perhaps presumes that England completely changed after the conquest which isn't exactly true since the process of minting coins used by Anglo-Saxons remained in Anglo-Norman England as well as the courts that were there before an armies like the fyrd. I then guess you would have to conclude as to the extent of change in England.
