So i had this question:

I get what the markscheme did, but here is what i did

what have i wrongly assumed/done?

force is (change of momentum)/time
time = distance/ speed
so force is proportional to v^2

Thank you for your reply! i see what you mean and indeed i do get 2 in the end but what is wrong with the way i have done it? What assumption did i get wrong?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean, you end up with a sqrt2 right? The only mistake is the force.

yeah i got root 2, for the force i did change in momentum / time, then i did it in terms of velocity but assumed time is constant is this where i went wrong? that i assumed the time between each collision was the same?

Yeah i think this is where i went wrong thank you so much for your help!

The time of the collision is not constant, it depends on the speed
