Why do we need exams boards?

Correct me if i am wrong - but exam boards are profit making companies?

Why not have 1 exam board that does a couple of different specifiactions for each subect instead of all this duplication.

It would make things cheaper and Fairer - as everybody would have done the same exam

I see no need for exam boards

The U.K. is too big for one exam board, too much paperwork, etc. Much better to have separate exam boards in that regard. Furthermore, the exam boards are often area specific and cater best to that area, so.
