Has anyone done / is doing a criminology course in university? What does it consist of and what are the career options from it?

I'm currently studying a joint honours course, it's criminology with policing and investigation. There are some theory modules which explore different criminological perspectives, i've also had modules relating to psychology, law and penology. My course including policing, i've had a couple of police-related modules too. A lot of the course is learning to apply the theories to policy and practice. We've also had a module on social research methods.

As for career prospects the most obvious ones are working with the police, prisons, probation etc. But you can also get into a range of different careers, management, education, charities etc... there are loads of different transferable skills that result from a social science degree as it encourages your analytical skills and critical thinking!
