The Student Room Group

Short but awkward commute, shall I become someones lodger or just commute?

Reasons for this are mainly even a 1 hour journey exhausts me due to health issues, not that I can't do it but it feels like I have been travelling hours, and as I have to change trains, and go through a city centre its going to be jam packed, I could leave the house at 8am exactly and just about make a lecture at 9 but its risky.

College is giving me £40 per week travel expenses, I can get a flatshare for around £220-240 a month including bills, which means I pay like £40-£60 per month for the ease of living like 20 minutes walk from campus, inclusive bills rather than the £15-£25 I pay per week in winter for gas and electric so works out about the same outgoings and means I am able to socialise (not really into that but means I don't have to rush home after class and make sure im awake around 7am in morning) even if its a pint, also the area around the college has a lot of social hubs i.e a anime cafe, nice places to eat etc.

Or I can still commute, trains every 15 minutes or so until evening but means that 7am wake, even if I was straight out of college at 4 id say by time I caught connections Id be home about 5.15.

Trying to work out if its worth paying £40-£60 of my own cash for a hours extra sleep in morning (a bit more probably) to not feel exhausted coming home and the possibility of socialising (and much easier to get a job)

Either way im keeping my current flat as its £250 a month and its full of stuff (and 2 bedroom) so can come here at weekends.
Id get a flat of your own closer to college and give up the 3250 a month one so you've money that way.

I wouldn't be, and currently I have a 2 bedroom flat which is packed with furniture and possessions, but if I moved normally id lose the travel expenses.

So its basically pay like £10 or £15 a week out of my pocket to have a 2nd property, because electric and gas id have to pay either way.

so you plan to pretend your living at your flat full time whilst lodging somewhere else.

Could you find someone, and share a flat close to your campus. This should reduce the cost & you might find someone to study with. Cheers.

Id be living at main property 3-5 nights a week,

Why do you think its "pretending" I couldn't handle living away from my main home too long and its a common thing known loads of people who work Monday-Friday and just stay at home at weekends and lodge during week theres even flatshares aimed at that

My main has my king sized bed, my games consoles, my gaming pc etc.

And to get a comparable property in the area with college would be £150 per month more and id lose travel expenses.

I'm sorry - i'm half asleep.. you said a flatshare. How about your 2 bedroom. Would you want to take in a roomer there?

Theres a lot of flat shares in the area and many aimed at students, can get a studio flat for as cheap as £240 a month unfurnished, but then would have to factor in gas and electric, internet and passing a credit check etc.

Lodging seems easier, student aimed lodgings perfect.

I have a 2 bedroom property currently but in a scummy area, and theres no locks on doors and I currently have my pc and big tv in living room don't want to risk being away a few nights a week and find a lodger has had friends round and wrecked place or had heating on in winter at max.

And no sub lets allowed in contract.
