As a first year university student I have found that the majority of my Assessments are based on coursework. I would say that around 80% of my first year grade is based on coursework whilst the 20% is exam based. When it comes to my grades my coursework based assessments average out at 59 whilst the 4 exams I have done this year have averaged out at 71 so I tend to do better in exams rather than coursework. I hate to make this a sexed argument but doing some research it turns out that women are statistically proven to achieve higher grades in coursework whilst men are statistically proven to do better in traditional exams. Surely this means that courses which are largely coursework based are suited to women whilst courses which are exam based are suited to men. Would you prefer courses to be entirely coursework based entirely exam based or a 50/50 split.

Coursework 100%. I hate the pressure of an exam, having to remember/know everything for one 3 hour period on a specific day at a specific time is incredibly daunting for me, along with sitting in silence and being constantly watched over by invigilators. I've always found that my exams were more of a memory test rather than showing how good I am at researching a topic and being able to form arguments and come to my own conclusions.
With coursework I can do as little or as much as I want every day, I can start it in my own time, in my home with my creature comforts around me. I can get up to make something to eat or go to the toilet or have a break, there's no restrictions. It doesn't matter if I'm having a bad day mental health-wise either. I can write that day off and start afresh the next. Coursework gives me more of a chance to express myself and my thoughts, checking my layout and grammar and spelling without having to worry about how much time I've got left.
