Edexcel AS Maths Paper 2- Stats and Mechanics *UNOFFICIAL MARK SCHEME *

1.)
a) Postive correlation as the number of points increases the pay increases.

b) For 10 points gained, pay increases by 45 pound.

c) Pay cant be negative when x is zero

2.) Probability

a) Probability tree
b)7%
c) Prove not independent

3.) Mean- 10.2
b) SD 3. ...

Mean with 11- Month is October

x- outlier, extreme value etc

Box 3- August

4.) Hypothesis testing:
a)0.381 and 0.00589
b) Significant and reject HO as 3.75 was less than 5%

5.) P(x=2) was 0.35 and same for P(x=4). Then was 0.15 for P(x=3) and P(x=1)
b) 0.00580 something like that
c)?

Mechanics

6) Time taken was 2 seconds to hit ground

7) Constant velocity at 24

Time taken to decelerate was 48 seconds

Total time was 264

Not reliable- ignores tractive forces and resistance to motion

8) At rest when Time is 0, 1.5 and 2.
Total distance- 33/16 metres
Not negative- prove subbing in values and anything greater than or equal to zero produces positive number.

9) T= 4/7 mg
Same accel- light string
K= 1/3
not valid- pulley modelled as smooth

There is mistakes in my answers please comment so I can update

For 8, the total distance was 2 + 2*1/32 because 2 is just the displacement.
1B May have a typo there but increase of 10 points = £45 increase
1c I put something about how there must be minimum wage so may not be valid for low point jobs, also it was 4.5x-47 so for very low points oh would b negative which isn’t right
2a 7% of goods from C were faulty, do t remeber the rest
8a I got 0, 0.5 and 1
8b total distance was 2+1/16
8c was same acceleration because the string was in extensible

I'm not sure but I do remember that both parts were 3 marks. I think for the displacement one, you'll have dropped maybe 1 or 2 but the k one? It said in the q that k < 2 so I think alarm bells should have been ringing if you got 3.
I've done so badly, im going to get a D, defo didnt get more than like 20 marks in this...

8c: it's defo because the string is light. It says so in the textbook. EDIT: just checked. It doesn't :hide:
But I got all the same :five:

How did u guys do question 3 for the boxes and the months. I just put September and wrote it's the windiest since I had no clue. And I put Y as E because it was spread out and had a high mean.
Those are lovely numbers to work with; we worked with surds and nonsense large prime numerator fractions in the old spec.

Mate, your spec is like gcse compared to what we have to do
What if I wrote September for the box one?
I think I got 4mg/7?

I think the question was why it didn't represent all the jobs in the company, to which I replied because the sample was too small. So I'm not sure you would get the mark :/

I'm not sure but it was a one mark q anyway

For the qualifications question: If people do not have enough qualifications, then their pay will be negative which is not physically possible.
I think I put down the fact that the pulley was smooth so it didn't take friction into account and because they were modelled as particles, so air resistance wasn't taken into account.

Yes!! :five:

Idk. I put down October too...

You reject H0. The pulley may not be valid because there surface of the pulley could be rough so the forces labelled may not be constant.

Does anyone know how to do the P(Y+X > 5 ) ? or something like that? (5c)

The probability of getting a faulty component was 6% (0.9 + 0.9 + 4.2 from the percentages of faulty components from the suppliers respectively) and I can't remember why they weren't statistically independent
7% ring a bell?
