The Lebanon

Most of the people that danced to this weren't interested in the politics, but they sing along to the words.
I remember one young man saying nothing all day except "The Lebanon" in a robotic voice.

Nice! Love the story. The New Romantics included a small sub-group of 'gender benders' (those who 'bent' gender categries, although only one way, as far as I can see, but still... different to the genres which solidify traditional gender categories. This is not a great song but the artist deserves a mention:

Weclome to the '80s 'less well-known' tracks club! I've grown up with this music and have followed some of the histories of the various genres. It struck me that the '80s compilation stuff out there tends to repeat the same songs, so I wanted to create a thread that captures the more 'obscure' songs. I also like the 'fun fact' aspect behind the songs and artists. For example, I forgot to mention, with respect to Marilyn above ^^, that Paul Caplin (did maths at Cambridge), who produced his songs, was also the founding member of Animal Magnet, who supported Duran Duran on one of their early tours. The Birmingham connection! I'm also posting the songs by sub-genre: Coming up - Psychobilly, Alternative Post-Punk, and more! Oh, and it's 'one-a-day' because everyone needs to listen to one good/interesting song a day.

Oh, that's nice. I haven't heard this before - what a great tune. Thank you for posting. We need more! Let's change the sub-genre to Psychobilly. This was not a huge genre but produced some interesting stuff. It was both US and UK-based, from what I've read. I'm starting with the amazing Cramps:

I know that there are already threads on this genre, but I noticed that the same songs tend to get posted. '80s (and House) are my favourite genres, and there are so many different 'sub-genres' that are worth listening to:
First, the political ones:

The Meteors (who were not very good, actually) were the first British Psychobilly band - but they did two great songs (and this is one of them, a cover, but they do it well):

This band is referred to as 'folk punk' by Wiki, and not Psychobilly, but there are definite psychobilly overtones, so I'm including them here (the song is a bit sweary, so beware if you don't like this type of thing)

New category - '80s dark (gothic, post-punk, gothic rock, New Wave, Alternative): I don't really like The Cure but this song is superb

So many Bauhaus songs, but this is one of my three favourites (Puddles - I learnt all my dance moves from Pete Murphy)

Really pleased you like it. You are right - as somebody said in the comments, it's a tremendous song from Bauhaus. I wasn't going to post this next one but something in your comment made me realise that the Bauhaus band members are very enigmatic, especially Pete Murphy, which I never noticed before. He's also very enigmatic in this brilliant cover.

I have another contribution:

LOVE this song, but don't forget, guys, we are currently doing '80s goths/dark <looks pointedly at Puddles>. You have to stick to the sub-genres <looks pointedly at Puddles>. After the goths, we'll do New Wave/Alternative (Simple Minds, Human League, Falco, that type of stuff......after the goths ), but.not.yet
<looks pointedly at Puddles>....... More goth/'80s dark tomorrow...

https://youtu.be/4zRkIbUi01k Vienna by Ultravox, coming from the dawn of the 80's its often been overlooked and is an excellent song about longing and creates a cool sense of desperation.
