Trump cancels summit with Kim Jong Un

I'll wake up on the 11th of June to find out that every single square inch of Pyongyang has been nuked. That much I can dubiously suspect.

Well he is demolishing the nuclear test sites and part of the conditions of lifting sanctions was "the complete denuclearisation" of the Korean peninsula so this would include getting rid of any nukes already built.

The North and South have stated that they have 'agreed to rid the peninsula of nuclear weapons', but have yet to provide any new specific measures how to achieve that. Sort of like the P5 and their 'nuclear weapons-free world' mantra, which will never happen.

As far as sanctions are concerned, the North will continue to survive because of China - and so it certainly does not threaten Kim's control.

There is absolutely no chance that Kim will give up his nukes in exchange for the lifting of sanctions after what occurred to Saddam, Gaddafi, and Ukraine.

Trade wars are good and easy to win.

:facepalm::facepalm:

which trade war?

Between North Korea and the US, there isnt any trade to begin with.
So No Noble Peace prize for Trump??? :colonhash::colonhash:

:afro:
WW3 begins...
I know I'm dumb but what's happening with Russia and the UK?
I'm afraid that an actual war might break between Russia and the UK. Then North Korea too with the US.
Obvious this was going to happen as Kin just wanted the attention plus to be seen as an equal.. Kim was about to do it and Trump got there first.
Hardly going to give up the nukes. His facility had collapsed, hence the shutdown.

I must say I saw the deal being spiked but I didnt expect Trump to do it

US President Donald Trump has cancelled a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, blaming "tremendous anger and open hostility" from the North.
He said it was possible a meeting could still take place but warned North Korea against committing "foolish" acts.
The summit aimed to rid the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons and would have been the first time a sitting US president met a North Korean leader.
But doubts had emerged on both sides whether the talks would take place.
Mr Trump's announcement marks a fresh twist in the turbulent relationship between him and Mr Kim.
Last year saw the two exchange lurid insults. This year though has seen warmer relations, including the release of three US detainees in North Korea.
The move came just hours after North Korea said it had dismantled tunnels at its only nuclear test site.

A senior administration official later gave more details about the summit's cancellation, saying North Korea showed "a profound lack of good faith" in the run-up to the meeting.
There were a series of "broken promises" from Pyongyang, the official told reporters, including when the White House sent the deputy chief of staff to Singapore to meet North Korean diplomats ahead of the summit.
"The North Koreans didn't show up. They simply stood us up."
The official also said President Trump had "dictated every word" of the letter to Kim Jong-un after talking with South Korean president Moon Jae-in.
Diplomacy in disarray

Analysis by Jonathan Marcus, BBC diplomatic correspondent
The Trump administration insists that North Korea was not responding sufficiently in the summit preparations, raising doubts that the meeting would be able to achieve a positive outcome.
The big question is what happens now?
Prior to the thaw in relations between North and South Korea that began the process that led to the summit date, wild rhetoric was being exchanged between Pyongyang and Washington raising serious fears of a renewed conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
Will North Korea now resume its long-range ballistic missile testing? Will the war of words be renewed? Or might there be a slim chance of some kind of diplomatic process being maintained?
And finally, can relations between North and South Korea be insulated in any way from the growing tensions between Pyongyang and Washington?

What did Mr Trump say?

Mr Trump said he had been looking forward to the now-cancelled summit in Singapore on 12 June.
"I was very much looking forward to being there with you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have the long-planned meeting," Mr Trump said in a letter to Mr Kim.
"You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used," he added.
But he called the meeting a "missed opportunity", saying "someday, I look very much forward to meeting you".
In a later statement at the White House, Mr Trump said the step was a "tremendous setback for North Korea and the world", adding the US military was "ready if necessary" to respond to any "reckless" act from North Korea.

What was he referring to?

Mr Trump was apparently responding to statements from North Korea attacking his administration and casting doubt over the meeting.
Earlier on Thursday, North Korean official Choe Son-hui dismissed remarks by US Vice-President Mike Pence - who had said North Korea "may end like Libya" - as "stupid".

Pompeo - US was ready but North Korea had gone silent on preparations

Ms Choe, who has been involved in several diplomatic interactions with the US over the past decade, said the North would not "beg" for dialogue and warned of a "nuclear showdown" if diplomacy failed.
A White House official quoted by Reuters described the comments about Mr Pence as the "last straw". They stressed, however, there was a "backdoor that's open still".
References to Libya have angered North Korea. There, former leader Colonel Gaddafi gave up his nuclear programme only for him to be killed by Western-backed rebels a few years later.

What's the reaction been?

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said "I am very perplexed and it is very regrettable that the North Korea-US summit will not be held", the Yonhap agency reported.
This year has seen improving ties between North and South Korea, with the leaders of both holding a summit just last month.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the US and North Korea should not give up, saying "nerves of steel" were required.
In the US, Republican Senator Tom Cotton praised President Trump for "seeing through Kim Jong-un's fraud". But Democratic Senator Brian Schatz said the move was what happened "when amateurs are combined with warmongers".
C'mon, Trump tried his best and that is all that can be asked. He got those three guys out of clink and these are just growing pains in a very protracted process. You don't like the man, do you?

Personally it just seems that he's getting out infront of the train before the north could crap on the deal. Nothing but self preservation here.

Not in the slightest :L
He always said, he wouldnt go for bad deals...he realises this wasnt the way forward lol. Takes just as strong a man to admit that as anything, and they did ironically today make their only nuclear testing site go boom! And frankly would cost alot of momey for such an impoverished nation to rebuild it!

You mean the one which has already mostly collapsed
You seem to be forgetting that the tunnels they use [unlike the South African ones] go horizontally into the mountain thus it is incredibly easy to simple clear out the rubble to reopen them.

Do you not see why that makes it worse? DPNK gave the US a peace offering and even after that he's ruined it like he always does.

I didnt really care that trumptards were giving him credit (even though it was solely the work of China and SK) but then the moron resumes military drills in SK. To top it off, he cancels the meetings just as NK were bombing key nuclear test sites.

It's really shocking how dimwitted some of you lot are.
Maybe Kim was expecting something in return for his publicity stunt and was left disappointed and sore. We simply don't know what goes on behind the scenes, this involves the Chinese, the South Koreans, the Japanese, it's like a board game. This is never about Trump solely, he may be at the head of a bloc but he is not going to openly fly in the face of his partners in the region. As much as in the Mid-East, with Israel and Saud.

From what we know about Trump, he is not one to waste time on business going nowhere. If he sees no point in meeting up with Kim he simply won't, whereas some politicians would gladly welcome the photo opportunity and might still put it on even if for nothing else.
