X = 7 +(36-7)/2 = 21.5

No it's 14.5 + 7.

That's wrong. The line never bisects any of the squares therefore you can't just add 8.

You have to use section formula or any other mathematical method such as similar triangles.

It's shocking me how many people got 20 for this question. The squares confused everyone!!
It's literally just the midpoint of the line, so 21.5

It's not the midpoint of the line.
Being as I don't recall a question with these answers I am assuming this wasn't on edexcel higher?
