bump!!
I think its mostly because theme questions tend to be broader; you can literally analyse anything and link it to that particular theme.
I personally find character questions easier, but theme questions are good too

people are saying gender or class division for themes might come up
If you just know random quotes from different characters then the theme one is best for you
Themes allow you to talk about whatever you want to, if you’re confident enough in English then you might aswell do a theme because although they tend to be harder questions the answers you’re able to write for them are subsequently better

When describing a theme it is much more flexible; you're not limited to the things you're describing. However, choosing one character throughout the play neither displays how well you know the whole play nor allows you to express your full ability of writing becuase you're limited.

The second question they ask is always about theme or different characters attitudes; one exception might be inpector becuase you can write tonnes about him. I predict the theme to be on social class, gender divide or responsibility. Could be wrong though. Good luck tmrw!
Last years questions were both characters
You can use quotes from all the characters and you normally have more to write.
