I think it'll depend a lot on the number of people who make their offers and the admissions tutor, at the university in question. Though personally i'd take a gap year and do something - there's nothing worse than ending up at a uni that you're only at because it was the only one that would take you.
Get in touch with Warwick about it.

Quite easy. Last couple of years chem at Warwick has been in clearing. (unless there's a surge in interest this year)

hmm, well im a bit paranoid about the whole clearing thing and looked for clearing places last year even though i had only done my AS's. Warwick was there quite far into the clearing dates for chemistry, so i would say there's a pretty good chance you can get in.

Has anyone actually contacted Warwick about this? Im in a similar situation and would be grateful to know what their official line is.

It is quite possible, been clearing for chem at Warwick each year I've been there (I'm 4th yr chem). Less places in the past couple of years due to increasing numbers, but if you are quick off the mark it could well be possible.

ETA: I have a friend at a different uni who applied for medicine originally then changed to chem and applied in about April / May time and got in. Speaking to the admissions person is the best way forward as you might be able to do something about it now.
Anyone know what the case is for Physics there also?
